Killed by Ape

Yeah, dire apes are vicious. When I ran a gladitorial campaign early this year, a 12th level ogre fighter got shredded by a pair of dire apes. When I brought in a legendary ape, his character ran screaming, even though he was supposed to be fighting with it, not against it.
That player has never looked at monkeys the same way again.

It wasn't a dire ape, but once I lost a player to a dire shark riding on the back of a dire elephant, just stomping and biting everything it sees.

I in the five 3e campaigns we have ran, have seen seven characters torn apart by apes(3 by Girallons). I also lost a character to "the big pig" that was in 2e though. But yeah I think apes are extremely dangerous.
