[Kinda OT] ARRGH! I hate moving!

Okay, it's not that I really hate moving, it's actually kind of an adventure, but I'm ready to get the process done. 99% of my gaming materials are in boxes in a warehouse in OKC. I, however, am still stuck in Alabama. I've still got a little more than a month till I'm in the new house and can join my brother's group. I can't even buy anything new at the moment either (#!*&*@%!$!* closing costs).

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm much better now.

Well, I just moved this weekend and the whole process took less than half of a day. Granted I only moved about a half mile away, but it also went smoothly simply because I don't have a lot of stuff.

Perhaps you need to seriously analyze everything you have and throw away or sell anything you haven't used in the past two years. There is something to be said for not accumulating lots of things.

Actually Zogg, you wouldn't believe how much stuff we threw away.

I'm in the worst part of the whole moving process, the waiting between moving out and moving in. The way the house sold and my timeline for signing in at my new duty station made for a 60 day gap.

Olgar, I feel your pain. This is move #3 in 8 years active duty.

Anyway, I was just venting a bit of steam as I miss being able to grab something out of my D&D collection when I get the urge. Thanks for letting me rant. :D

I've moved 4 times in 5 years, and I still suck at it. I did wise up and gave away all my Rifts books last time, and bam, half my tonnage gone.

Next time I'm hiring movers.

I feel your pain.

I moved a few weeks ago, and I decided to be nice, and move out a week early, partly to be able to use my roommates rental truck, and partly (mostly) because the people moving into my apartment were , essentially, homeless since their landlord kicked them out early. SO I move out a week early. My friends help my Roomie move since all her people cancelled. So you know, we're being nice to two parties here, my roomie and the new folks.

And how do I get repaid for my kindness???

My *insert nasty word here* of a landlord fines me and takes my entire security deposit for "moving out early". Seems the nazis who run my old apartment building don't allow people to move in or out on WEEKENDS. Only on weekdays, which, as you can imagine doesn't work for someone who works every weekday.

So they fined my landlord. He is not willing to listen to reason, so he took my entire deposit.

I hope I never move again. I'm sure I will....but dreading it...

I had a thread like this about 5 months ago and my main part of the rant was boxing up my gaming materials and storing it in room in the house that leaked when raining (didnt know that it leaked til after the fact :( ). A fair number of my older Dragon magazines and some of my Forgotten Realms sourcebooks got wet, but thanks to quick thinking of my wife, all were saved, just some of the Dragon magazines are a little it water damaged - as in crinkled. Not much I can do about that.

As to number of moves, we did 3 moves in 8 months, 4 in 2 years and 5 in 2.5 years in total since we have been back in Australia. But the last was the final :D as we now own our own home and don't have to worry about moving for quite awhile.

But being away from your gaming material sucks, esp when you really really want to game.
