Kingdoms of Kalamar Coin Trilogy as evil?

Lord Ben

First Post
Okay, I heard that the Coin Trilogy could be played as Evil characters? How supported is it? A paragraph of footnotes, or is it pretty detailed? My players want to be evil, and I want to run the coin trilogy as an adventure. Will this work?

Is it easy to convert? Or is the theme of destroying an evil coin (taken from the titles) not going to work with evil characters? Hmm... Thanks.

Having run the entire trilogy with a chaotic neutral party, I think you can do it with an evil party. There will be instances where they will need to disguise their evilness, such as when they want Halaan to create the second coin. Don't know if he'd do it if he was sure the party was evil. My party did most of the adventure strictly for the monetary gains along the way. As for Daresh's coin and destroying it. Since it's welded to her, the party can't really use it without killing her. Also, the party has no idea what will happen should the two coins come together, and I would keep it that way. So if you don't want them to have a coin at the end of the entire adventure, it's fairly easy to be sure they don't. Their motivation for killing Daresh would simply be for the power I would imagine. They would want there to be only ONE coin.

Okay, thanks. I don't think they want to be baby-killer evil, but they just want to use some of the spells and abilities they haven't been able to and fight things the normally wouldn't. They're not sure though so as long as it's adaptable I'll buy it and figure out something from there if they want to be evil.

Evil CHaracters

The key to taking evil parties through ANY adventure is to provide them with the motivation to do the good things. Money, Power and Fame are strong motivators for the evil party. Let's use Temple of Elemental EVil as an example as I do not have the COin series as yet. The party is evil, the enemy is evil. Motivation, if the Temple rules or destroys the world in it's mad quest to ressurect Tharizdun, what does that leave the evil characters with? No money, no power, no fame, shafted like a virgin on prom night. Motivation would become to destroy the Temple and the cult of Tharizdun so that there is something left to rule when they begin their own plans for conqouring kingdoms and forging empires, or summoning demonic armies to destroy Canon Hazen of Veluna yadda yadda yadda, yackety smackety.
