Knight build and (mostly) mount options

Well, first things first: Do you want the PC to be the main focus, or the mount?

THe reason for asking is that with a Halfling (or Human, if you have a lenient DM), you can get a 25+HD large Gold Dragon as a mount. You will need Paladin levels, the Devoted Tracker feat, Beastmaster prc, Dragon Steed feat, and a few other odds and ends, but you will be a master of mounted combat simply because your mount will kill everything in sight.

The PC of course. About the dragon: I think my DM would have fed me to the tarasque if I tried to pull out something like that. Anyway I think I'll probably go with Wild Cohort feat and get a horse with warbeast template. This is because I found an item (can't remember where though) that lets him take an aspect of a Nightmare (MM1) which gives 80 ft flying speed. Anyone has a better idea? If so I'm always open to other proposals and opinions.

Then you are basically stuffed. At low-mid to high levels, that mount is going to be a huge liability. 4HD plus frills won't be more than a very shallow speedbump for most CR 6+ creatures...

Even a level 20 Paladin's warhorse is not going to mean much at those levels. Certainly not something you'd want to bring into the middle of melee.

Regarding the One-handed vs Two-Handed discussion.

Given the momentum of your mount and the nature of poking at someone with a very sharp stick while charging them I'd be more than willing to let you count it as two-handed.

Given any thought to the Halfling Outrider blended with Knight? A Riding Dog is much more maneuverable in tight spaces than a full sized warhorse.

He could also drop the Dragon and blend Outrider, Paladin and Beastmaster for an extremely tough, 26HD dog, or a similar HD Unicorn/Griffon. Any Magical Beast, really, if you follow the CR = level-3 (-4 if flying) rule in the old 3.0 optional ruleset.

Paladin for the win. For serious Cha-monkey goodness, Kt 4 / Ftr 2 / Pal 4 / Divine Crusader 10 can be very nasty.
Only problem is that his mount is going to be so much toast because it is just going to be a normal mount...

And there's an experience point penalty for a significant number of levels unless he is a dwarf... who would not be a Cha-monkey :\
