Knights of the Dinner Table Magazine

Anybody subscribed to Knights of the Dinner Table magazine?

Is it good? Bad? OK?
What kind of articles are in there?
Good editing? Too many typos?

I know half(?) of it is a comic (which I always liked when they were in Dragon), so I'm talking about the other half.

I'm interested in any information and opinion you may have about it.
Thanks.

I'm not a subscriber, but I pick it up at my FLGS as soon as it appears!

The comic storylines are usually pretty good. There are also some secondary strips that appear within.

There is an intense love/hate thing going on with Noah Antweiller's "Gamer's Rant on Movies." I enjoy them, even when I disagree.

There's a few pages of RPG industry news that can be quite informative.

There are computer game reviews.

They also indulge in a bit of nostalgia- "Wild Game Safari" combines a review of classic RPGs and boardgames and details the author's efforts to track them down online, with approximate pricing.

I've been reading it for some time, and have yet to feel dissapointed.

I stopped reading Mr. Antweiller's "Gamer's Rant on the Movies" articles after the first few. Now all I really need to know, I get from seeing the title and his name attached to the article.

Most of the rest of the magazine is pretty solid, though I buy it for the comics.

How much does each issue cost and for how many pages? How many pages are KotDT comics? And are they the same of comic that appeared in Dragon magazine all those years ago?

I was a subscriber back in the early 2000s but let my subscription lapse when I realized that, as entiertaining as KoDT was, its usefulness as a gaming aid was non-existant.

Subscriber, here. this thing, RAWKS.

I buy it, mostly for the comic, but I also find the gaming content really good. If you want to get all the details for the magazine, hit: www.kenzerco.com.

Hoody Hoo!

I'm not a subscriber (yet), but I usually buy the issues at my local comic shop.

The comics stuff is really good. KODT hasn't slipped at all in its long lifespan.

There's a lot of good gaming stuff, too. There's a monthly section on clever traps which is great for catching players off guard, and there's usually some maps, magical items, or similar adventure material. There's also "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," which gives three interesting NPCs every month. The material isn't always suited for D&D, but it's usually very good and easily convertable to whatever game you're looking to run.

In addition, there are sections for book, movie, and product reviews. There's also a rumor mill/news section about the gaming industry. Altogether, it's one of the best gaming-related magazines out there.

I've been buying it since issue 17 and primarily for the comics. The gaming stuff, while useful to some, usually only gets a cursory scan from me. I love the lost game safari articles. Good stuff there usually. They have a section every month where they present three NPCs for use in "your" campaign, but my peave about the feature is that they tend to have silly names and the character sketches leave me cold.

The comic story lines, while more complex than they used to be years ago, tend to also be less funny. Not to say that KoDT isn't funny anymore, just not as funny as it was when I first started reading.

Overall, I still enjoy it and have no plans to stop reading.

I really like KotDT. I don't subscribe, however, because that's one of those things I'd rather give my FLGS a few extra coins for carrying.

I generally don't read the Movie Rants or Fuzzy Nights. Actually, there are lots of things I skim over with the intention of coming back to later -- NPCs, traps, magic items, stuff like that.

The editing is so-so. I tend to cut it some slack because it's a comic, and even though it really isn't "indie" or indie-priced anymore, I think part of my brain is still tricked into thinking that it is. The editing is improved from past issues, however.

Even though the RPG focus of KotDT is still on K&C products, they include quite a bit of d20 stuff, too. The most recent issue actually has a little Dungeon Crawl Classic adventure in it.

The majority of the mag is taken up by the KotDT comic strip. I love it, but it's hit or miss (usually hit). If you don't like that particular comic, then this mag isn't going to be for you.

I think it's going for around $5.00 these days. I wish they would have stuck with cheaper paper. I just don't see the point of putting individual issues on archival stock paper when they're going to be collected in graphic novel format later anyway -- but that's an OT complaint I have with modern comics in general. :D
