Knights of the Dinner Table Magazine

I stopped reading Mr. Antweiller's "Gamer's Rant on the Movies" articles after the first few.
I read a movie review in KOTD of Starship Troopers that had me howling. I don't know if it was the same guy or not. It was the repeated use of the phrase "fart fire into outerspace" that did it. I thought I was going to pass out I was laughing so hard. Sometimes things hit you just right.

Overall, I always liked KOTD. I met Jolly Blackburn at a con one time, and he seemed like a nice enough guy. I am basing this off maybe 15 seconds of conversation. And while the comic has its moments, it does have that occasional moment of genius. The Gazeebo Encounter. The Black Bag Operation. Pink Frosting.

I enjoy KotDT every month, but I don't have a subscription. I just pick it up at my local game/comicbook store.

In all honesty, I don't care for most of the extras in the book. Not to say that they're bad, I just don't need/use them ever if though I do reed them.

I'd gladly not have them and pay less (its $5 bucks now) for just the comics (including the Fuzzy Knights strip.)

As much as I'd like to just drop the single issues and get the trade paperback collections, I just enjoy it too much and don't wanna have to wait.

I dont subscribe it, but it's on my 'pull' list at the comic store. Generally, I mostly get it for the comic and the look at older games. Beyond that, there's usually not much else I need it for. In fact, I often toss em when I get the Bundle compilations.

I know half(?) of it is a comic (which I always liked when they were in Dragon), so I'm talking about the other half.

The majority of the mag is taken up by the KotDT comic strip.

Just to be technical - the KODT strip is approximately 25-30 pages of each 80 page issue. :)

I'm a subscriber. Love the comics and love the features. I would even play Hackmaster if I had more time and a group that was willing to give it a go. I would love to see more generic, not Kingdoms fo Kalamar D&D stuff in the magazine.

How much does each issue cost and for how many pages? How many pages are KotDT comics? And are they the same of comic that appeared in Dragon magazine all those years ago?

Each issue is usually 80 pages, though it occasionally goes higher (#126 is 88 pages).
Cover price is $4.99, though bulk mail subscribers can get it cheaper.

As my previous post noted, each issue contains approximately 25-30 pages of KoDT strips. They feature mostly the same characters from the older strips that appeared in Dragon, but there are no reprints. (Any strips with the "Retro KODT" logo are new "untold tales" not repeats.)

I'd suggest looking at the current issue's Table of Contents. I think it should be hitting stores this week, if it didn't last week, and will be on the webstore soon. (Webstore releases after brick and mortar stores, so we don't compete with the local retailer for new releases.)

Mark, do you happen to know which was the first issue of KoDT with official D&D content? I'm guessing it was around about issue #53, which was when the Kingdoms of Kalamar Campaign Setting came out?

I don't know off the top of my head, but if I have time I'll dig through old issues and take a look. FYI, there is a new fan-made KODT Article Index that you can search in. It's on the KODT Downloads Page. However, if the term "D&D" or "Kalamar" didn't appear in the article title, it won't find it.

Heh -- I guess that shows about how much attention I pay to the rest of the mag. Or perhaps I just spend more time on the comics and that makes it feel like there are more panels. I think my brain just "discards" the sections I don't read.

In any case, I generally find myself reading more of and using more of the material in KotDT than I did with most issues of Dragon.
