Knights of the Old Republic (1&2) = Star Wars RPG System?

Hoping to pick you brains a bit. The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic RPVG (2003) - was it based on the Star Wars RPG (2000) or Star Wars RPG: Revised (2002) Core Rulebook? If so, how closely did it match the book?

Same question about SW: KOTOR 2 (2005).

And, for bonus points, have any of the newer Star Wars RPVGs been based on the SW RPG: Saga Edition?

The basics of the rules, character development etc were same, but I don't think that the mechanics accurately followed either revisions. I think that the power system was completely game's own, IIRC there were some other differences too. And wasn't there one chooseable improvement per level?

It's been a while, hard to remember anything more accurate about the rules. KOTOR1 was really excellent game, didn't care that much about 2.

KOTOR dispensed with Wounds/Vitality entirely and went to regular hit points, and simply gave Jedi a Force rating for using their powers. It sort of matched the original (2000) version but included some bits here and there from the Revised stuff. It also took an attack of opportunity against the odd divine bovine here and there. It introduced a Duellist feat chain that offered some parity for single-lightsaber users and rifle users compared to TWF. While it used something very similar to the RCR as a basis for the powers, it dipped heavily into other Star Wars PC games for mechanics and style. For instance, Force Lightning looks a lot like something out of one of the FPS games. The Jedi Guardian leap attack is a pure invention of KOTOR; it's pretty sweet, though. The Jedi Sentinel is a tweak of the Jedi Consular that includes a couple of combat abilities and borrows some flavor and mechanics from the Jedi Investigator class, plus some unique immunities.

I'm less familiar with KOTOR II, but it introduced some unique mechanics, and otherwise appeared to simply add onto the KOTOR framework.

Are we talking about the Saga Edition? That one was pretty good. It introduced some new concepts that carried over to 4e D&D, like how skill training replaced skill points.

Did we ever get any more news about who beat out Mongoose for the license a few months back?

No, Kotor came out long before the SAGA edition.
