Knowledge (Undead)?

Clumsy Bob

First Post
Okay I wish to transfer a Cleric from 3.0 to 3.5. I have several ranks in Knowl (Undead) and Religion and from my PC's background wish to keep them.
With 5 ranks of Religion I will gain a +2 synergy bonus to turning, what would be a possible synergy bonus to 5 ranks in Undead?

Cheers

They folded Knowledge (Undead) into Knowledge (Religion) so there is only one skill now. You need to check with your DM and find out what she wants to do about the change. If you paid for those ranks then you should be able to use those skill points else where.

You could change that to Knowledge [The Plains] for info about Outsiders, or for Knowledge[Arcana].

In our current game knowledge undead is very important to my PC, and therefore I would like to keep it if possible.

Would a +2 synergy bonus to turning damage for 5 ranks in Knowledge Undead be too high? I am afraid my experience to date has not included many turning attempts.

If knowledge of undead is important, then max out your Knowledge (Religion) rank. i.e. If you're a Cleric, your maximum rank is level+3. This is beneficial for your character: you either get better at knowing about religion and the undead, or if already at max, you get some skill points to allocate elsewhere, and still know the same amount.

No, you shouldn't get a bonus to turning twice. That would seem rorty. There are two feats that you can take, Improved Turning or Extra Turning.

Note that according to the Epic Level Handbook, Skill Synergy improves by +2 for every 20 additional ranks. So at rank 25 in Knowledge (Religion), you would get +4 to Turn Undead - nice at epic levels.

As has been stated, Knowledge (undead) is now part of Knowledge (religion). If your dm wants to keep it seperate, that's cool; but I'd say that you'll benefit greatly from it being folded in.

If your dm does keep them seperate, I'd say allow the +2 to turning attempts for it- but take away the +2 from Knowledge (religion).

This is the first I've heard of a synergy bonus to turning from having ranks in Knowledge Religion or Knowledge Undead (in 3.0).

Is that in the 3.0 PHB?

Actually, you can keep Knowledge (Undead) without changing it at all. Just realize that you've chosen a more specialized form of Knowledge (Religion). This means the DC's will be easier when using it to find out about undead, but you can't use it for any of the other aspects of Knowledge (Religion).

If you're converting to 3.5 I would just fold undead into religion and call it done. Having 15 ranks in religion in 3.5 is the same as having 15 ranks in undead in 3.0. Your DM is supposed to give you the same information with successful skill checks.
