Small sized
30' walk speed
+1 natural armor
Darkvision 60'
-4 STR, +2 DEX
Light Sensitivity: -1 to attack rolls in bright sunlight
+2 racial bonus to Craft (trapmaking), Profession (mining), and Search.

In the future, if you're caught without your books, check out www.opengamingfoundation.org.

Another question...

They have a CR of 1/6, all of the other PHB races have a CR of 1/2. Should there be an adjustment to bring them up to a CR of 1/2?

DM's call. I would say no, actually. In their favored class, sorcerer, they are actually pretty good. They have no penalties that actually hurt as a sorcerer, and they have some bonuses that help quite a bit.

By the book I know the answer is NO. It just seems like a bit of a short change.

Since a common house cat has a higher CR than a Kobold that's not a bad idea.

I would suggest taking the -4 Str to -2. Anything more might make them a little too powerful with the Natural armor boost, and medium size movement.

I removed the light sensitivity from my Kobolds as they are desert traders in my world.

Bear in mind that one reason they have CR 1/6 is that they have 1d4 hit dice-wizard/sorcerer hit dice without magic capacity. Note that a PC or NPC kobold (eg. a Warrior 1) will have hit dice appropriate to his class. Beware the kobold Barbarians! I don't know under which rule the 1d4 (er, 1/2 d8) is applied to the one in the MM. (Oh yeah-the "let's not change this familiar monster from the 1st/2nd Edition version, regardless of how it fits with the rest of the rules changes" rule. )

(IMC, all humanoids with less than 2 hit dice, including kobolds, have character classes. Kobold warriors are noticeably tougher than the 'stock' kobolds listed in the books, if only because they are much more likely to survive a single hit.)

The stock kobolds are commoner classed, thus the low CR. This is done purely for backwards compatibility. YMMV using it.

Kobolds are actually, if you give them PC classes, a fairly potent race. There natural AC, small size, and high dex, makes them rather hard to hit. They move extremely fast for a 'short' race. They make good archers, excellent sorcerers, and excellent rogues. Imagine a kobold PC with a couple levels of rouge, sorcerer, and arcane trickster.
