Koblold PC?

I've been playing a kobold wizard for a few weeks now (started at 3rd level) and it seems fairly well balanced. Closer to a +1 ECL than a -1 ECL in my opinion. Of course, my primary purchase for starting out the character was a Hewards Handy Haversack...

Personally, I consider Kobolds as written to be an ECL -1 race. Yes, that,s right, ECL minus one.

Really? Compare a kobold War1 to an orc War1, or better yet, a kobold Sor1 to a human Sor1, and tell me again why the kobold is such a sucky race.

The stock kobolds are commoner classed, thus the low CR. This is done purely for backwards compatibility.

Celebrim, I think you're right-the MM kobolds are Commoners. I guess a first-level commoner should be CR 1/6 ... That should help work out experience in case someone in my game ever beats up on an angry mob of commoners. Let's see-Com1 is CR 1/6, so Com2 should be CR 1/3, Com3 will be CR 1/2, Com4 will be CR1. With levels >3, Commoner characters will have a CR of level-3. Yeah, that looks about right ...

DO NOT ALLOW THIS!!!!!!!

As a DM i created a Kobold Barbarian and his lover, a kobold Sorcerress.

If the player puts a high cha and high dex, it could be disasterous.

Say he has an 18 Dex and takes Mage Armor and Shield for his spells.

10 + 4 (Dex) + 2 (Size) + 4 (Mage Armor) + 7 (Shield) + 1 Natural Armor = AC 28 at 1st level

This could be bad. VERY VERY bad

Friend of mine had a kobold bard henchman. Was very funny :D

Hey, what's the problem about that kobold sorcerer with AC28? Mine has it and still he gets beaten up. Sidestepping a shield is not that hard for enemies either.

And kobold barbarians with -4 strength? Naaah. Kobold fighter/rogues are much worse.

I've been looking for some good on-line art for kobolds and haven't had much luck. I'm looking for something that I can use a base to modify for my own PC, so if you know of anything, post a link here would ya? Much appreciated :)

Don't allow what, exactly? PCs as kobolds? If so, then you probably shouldn't allow halflings either! All kobold has over halfling (for AC) is a +1 natural armor bonus :-)

Well, this is at least close to working. The kobold entry in the SRD compared to a kobold Com1 has two points of extra Will save bonus and is short two skill points. I suppose the former could be a racial trait-a free Iron Will feat. (Yeah, that's real kobold-ish.) Oh, and they are using too many weapons (commoners have proficiency in only one simple weapon). That could be a racial trait, too, I suppose ...

Actually, I believe they are unclassed humanoids.

Only the 1 HD humanoids in the MM have classes. If they have less HD (kobold) or more HD (lizardfolk) they don't have a class.
