Koblold PC?

They have a CR of 1/6, all of the other PHB races have a CR of 1/2. Should there be an adjustment to bring them up to a CR of 1/2?

The whole point of playing a Kobold is that they are the suckiest race around. If you juice them up, you lose those bragging rights.

'short change' :D where's Meepo?

Good question... Where is Meepo? A post that says "Kobold" & he's not here. I think he should loose his Iconic status if he doesn't show up for at least a token post on this one.

I think you're confusing Kobolds with Gnomes.

Jeesh, the rules forum? I mean, who reads the rules forum? :P

Kobolds aren't terribly underpowered as is, though I'd tend to remove the light sensitivity and drop the strength penalty to -2. But that just makes them like scaly halflings. Maybe they need a +2 charisma bonus, to represent the way that girls always coo over the cute little kobolds ;)

It's in the General RPG forum too ;)

I'm with Meepo! :)

How about giving them a +2 Cha, instead of Dex? Or, just take the light sensitivity.

I'd play a Kobold wizard, rogue, archer, or cleric/barbarian Anytime! Gooo Kobolds!

Personaly I wouldn't balance a Cha boose with anything but a Con, Dex or Int penelity. Str & Wis are of little importance to sorcerers.

D&D ability scores tend to be a bit lop-sided this way, a -2 Str, +2 Int race is GREAT for wizards, while a +2 Str, -2 Int race is GREAT for fighters. According to the DMG the +Str guy is getting the better deal, but he'll loose skill points. The wizard will almost never need Str, since his spells can acomplish everything he could with a higher score easily (tenser's floating disc, Spider Climb), so really he's getting the better deal in this case.

I'd give 'em -2 Str, -2 Con, +2 Dex, +1 Armor, +2 Cha, 30' speed, Darkvision. Should work out fairly well. This is still very good. +3 AC (Small, +2 dex, +1 armor) and +2 to Cha, and darkvision and no speed reduction.

Personally, I consider Kobolds as written to be an ECL -1 race. Yes, that,s right, ECL minus one.

The opposite of, say, an Aasimar's ECL +1.

Therefor, in a 3d-level start, the Kobold would ahve 4 class levels (though only the XP and GP of a 3d level character).

This would apply to Kobolds with one or more PC class levels, however. :)

In fact, right now I'm putting together a campaign based on the PC's all being the evil, despicable goblinoids/humanoids (Orcs, Goblins, Kobolds, and similar-POV "monster" races). Kobolds there will be ECL -1, and it will indeed be a 3d-level start (to allow for Lizardfolk PC's, who would then have 1 class level, and a monster level or two ... 8).

Guys, I played a kobold PC since some time and had two other kobold PCs in different groups.

Don't give them any ECL. They rock. The faster movement combined with the high AC and to hit for ranged attacks makes them rather deadly. Only problem with the strength penalty: They cannot carry their light crossbows alone :D

But give them some spells with ranged touch attacks and they kick @§§.

And yes, they're cute. :D
