Any news that they might include Kobolds in a new PHB or at least include them in a Dragon article, doesnt even have to be Winning Races and give the little fellows some love ?

Not likely. When speaking about why the Githyanki were not included in PHB 3 the devs spoke about not wanting to do PC write ups for more evil races. Thats just paraphrasing but its the gist of their comments.

I've read where WotC folks wrote that "shifty" is too good an ability for PC's. If kobolds were a playable race, they would need to change that.

Plus they smell horrible.

For the above reasons I agree you are unlikely to see kobolds get full PC writeups. a) it hits at that group of 'let's keep these monsters evil villians' and b) the shift ability is too good and would need a nerf before being a PC ability

There is loving your Kobold and then there is LOVING your kobold.

Delgar -- you say that as if either is a bad thing ;)

Kobolds have always been a weak monster and thus should make a weak race. However, once you do that then it won't work as a good PC race. My opinion is that races like kobolds (and gnomes, quite frankly) should never be PC races because it makes them too strong for how I feel that monster should be. Similarly, some monsters are too strong to be PC races. For example, there should never be an illithid PC race.

Only the really good looking ones of course :)

Yes "Shifty" is good, if too good then maybe just once per encounter, but maybe 2 or 3 squares.

A Dragon article would clear that up and maybe add some flavour.

I mean they put the PC Race option in the MM so they should back it up with something solid and maybe a couple of feats.

How about
"Shiftier"
"Shift the Body" or
"Gime some Kobold love baby"

For that reason you should ban Halflings, and Gnomes are one of the original D&D races. come on man
