Kulan: Knightfall's Crisis in Bluffside Game [IC]

Maggs is uncertain what she should do. She has never questioned her choices in life like she is now. She has always believed in loyalty to those who have trained her. And to gold. But, the Loremaster's words have merit, don't they?

What she knows is that she's not here to fight this new foe that is howling at the others at the top of the stairs. The Exemplars are the mission. But, what if the mission could be more diplomatic. The Master did want to use diplomacy at one point, didn't he? She shakes her head and decides that she'd rather face Kellam Black's wrath then this new threat.

She moves carefully past her fellow Loyalists and across the greased floor to stand next to Kellam. She keeps her bow in her hand doesn't try to threaten Big Tim in any way. In fact, she stands with her back to the wall so that she is facing Kellam. She hopes the man will listen to her.

"Kellam, sir, we need to stop fighting against the Exemplars and deal with this new threat," she pleads. "It looks to be a powerful undead creature that could overwhelm us all."

Kellam keeps his eyes on Big Tim and lets out a low growl. "So many weak minds in the ranks." He shakes his head in disgust. "It seems I should have insisted to the master that you stay behind in the enclave. Your mind is almost as weak as your bow arm, girl."

Maggs isn't shocked by the man's words. "I know how much you hate them. We have all been taught to hate them and anyone else who gets in Master Phelix's way. But, there could still be another way to resol-"

"Shut Up!" Kellam screams at her. "You Are Pathetic!"

"It is true. When you consider that Maggs was supposed to lead the attack on The Five, and she is here with us, helping resolve this conflict in non-violent way. Isn't that better than being eaten by monsters you cannot control? Look at Musummar and his betrayal of Lowenan, why do you think he is concerned with your safety? He tried to kill that group by letting that fire elemental through the portal. Now this undead thing. All who surrender can go with us, face the trial, but it will be humane trial, not dying by some abominations hands. OR becoming one yourself."

Akos plays on Maggs charm and others fear revealing they already know much - but not revealing they heard exact name.
"And Kellam here, he already is a monster, so, no wonder he supports his master, he gave up his humanity already. There will be no place for humans in the new world."

Small ranger whispers to the towering creature next to him.
"Genie, take your knight and move further back and quicker. Tim cannot move with you in the same hall. We may need to rush things as more of them come."

OOC: We may need to leave flyers and teleporters to hold the line for a round. Before Tim climbs out of reach someone will have to stand downthere. And he might need to drop Rizvan or stow it somehow. Maybe we can make a run for it once the door closes, but we need to go now!

Vinny mulls over his options. He could try to attack Kellam once again, but his spells are growing more limited. He decides it is better to fortify Tymbeck and then retreat back down the corridor towards the others.

He is forced to stop in front of Akos, as everyone has bunched up in the corridor. "Back more. Spread out if you can."

Up the corridor, the man next to Maggs continues to babble. Akos' confusion spell has him completely useless. Meanwhile, the prone Loyalist in Falen's grease spell finally manages to crawl back towards the staircase where he finally gets back to his feet.

OOC: @Tellerian Hawke, your up for Tim.

Round 5 - Big Tim is Next.png

Without a word, Big Tim shifts his stance and brings his greatsword up and down quickly at the Loyalist in front of him. Kellam easily avoids the blow as the Tall Knight's feet slips on the smooth stone floor of the corridor. Tim tries to correct his stance and brings his blade around to try to decapitate the evil man, but while the swing is less awkward, Kellam manages to duck under Tim's greatsword.

Tim tries to hold back his frustration and brings his shield, Rizvan, around to bash the Loyalist commander, but Kellam is ready for the blow and deflects it with his heavy mace. The man is keeping his focus on Tim, but he remains keenly aware of the charmed woman next to him.

After Tim takes a step back down the corridor, the man grim visage turns to a sly smirk that Tim nearly misses. The man quickly says prayer in a language that Tim doesn't understand. Magical energy bursts out from Kellam's position to bolster his allies. The man doesn't advance against Tim. He simply holds his position and speaks.

"Creature, Stolen Soul of Imninon, enter the sanctuary and revive the others," Kellam says with a vicious glee. "They have not finished serving Master Phelix."

He glances at Maggs and growls at her. "If you get in my way, I will kill you myself."

Down near the other end of the corridor, Custodio continues to retreat towards the labyrinth's entrance. He stops next to Gattas and motions to the door. "Gattas! Go!"

OOC: Double move for Custodio. He wasn't able to get close enough to the door with his first move to open it.

Eeldai takes to the air without a word to Rockhorn. She flies the distance to the closed doors with ease. Spritewing stands in front of her. "Go, small one! Take the petrified wizard to safety!" She opens one side of the double doors to allow the dungeonbred pegasus egress. "I will follow once you have exited, and I can open the other door."

The young knight is in awe of her as she takes to the air, but is quick to follow her down the corridor towards the labyrinth's entrance and exit. He hesitates for a moment just as he enters the room with the gargoyle statue. Normally, by this time, he would be feeling the pull of time against his soul, but it is not there any longer. He moves to stand just in front of Custodio and Gattas.

OOC: It is now @MetaVoid's turn for Rockhorn. Then, it is @Neurotic's turn for Akos.

I will post a larger update to the map on the OOC thread, then link it here.

Rockhorn nods at the retreating knight and follows more carefully staying between them and the enemies, ready to hack whoever tries to go past him. His hold on the lance is a bit strange, but it is still a formidable weapon even without reach that would be typical of larger races. He holds his shield far forward with lance hand cocked far back for maximum thrust power.

Move: 20' back
Action: Ready an attack
Lance: +14 / 1d6+6

OOC: Sorry, I was waiting to see if Kellam is still humanoid, then I got busy

Akos blasts the undead on the wall and moves back toward the back line.

He tells them quietly, hopefully quiet enough that the front line doesn't hear it.
"If I tell you to run and not look back, do NOT look back. I'll have a spell active that will blind anyone who looks at me. As a desperation measure, not immediately."

Gets +2 vs undead from knowledge devotion
Hits undead touch AC 21 for 16
Hits Kellam with chained touch AC 24 for 8 (if the first one hits)

neurotic: D20 + 14#akosreligioncheck → 19(5 + 14)#Akos religion check +2 vs undead

Forgot wild soul bonus, so it's touch AC 21 and 16 damage vs undead

Rockhorn finds his way down the corridor without incident. The Loyalists seem to all be trapped behind Tim farther up the corridor. The main concern is the thing on the wall, which could climb past Tim, but not without the Tall Knight being able to strike out at it.

Akos is frustrated by the undead thing's protection against magic. Whatever power created it, has given the monstrous creation spell resistance. The blast fizzles as it hits the creature.

Then, it moves along the wall using the tentacles protruding from its gut and back while holding on to its two longswords. The creature is soon standing in front of Big Tim, but the Scarlet Cross Knight manages to strike out at it. It hisses at Tim and wishes to counterattack.

"No, creature," Kellam orders. "Bring back the others to continue to serve Master Phelix. Like you, their souls belong to him... and the Ancient Ones of the Unseen Abyss." The evil man pauses. "Then you may seek revenge against these heroes for your death, Imninon."

The undead creature howls in rage, as its eyes glow brighter. It scans into the sanctuary and its powerful eyes rays come to rest on the dead bugbear cleric. Tim cannot see the result, but he can hear it. Khagron roars back to... unlife. "Construct! You will pay dearly for th-... Wait, something is different." Tim hears a loud hiss. "I hunger. What is this hunger?"

OOC: @Tellerian Hawke, Big Tim gets an AoO against the Soul Stolen.

Soul Stolen uses its powerful eye rays (100-ft. range; turns Khagron into a vampire; standard action). It takes a full round for Khagron to rise as a vampire, however.

New Initiative Roll: Vampiric Khagron - Initiative Roll: 1D20+11 = [3]+11 = 14 (Reduced to 12; cannot act before the Soul Stolen)

Tim watches as the thug on the stairs where Maggs had been standing a moment ago, moves forward past the other Loyalists, across the greased floor, to stand next to the Soul Stolen. The man seems more concerned about what is behind him than angering Kellam or facing Tim.

"Sir, if Commander Fetolsson's mind is truly under the fey's control, then he is lost to us. The thing back there is undead and not under your control like this thing. It has all the trapping of a priest," the man say to Kellam. "While I am loathe to agree with Maggs... in her condition, we should worry about what it might be able to do to us."

"Is your mind as weak as hers!?" Kellam growls while glancing at Maggs. "We do not retreat and do not make alliances with our enemies. I am surrounded by such fools."

Then, Tim hears the unnatural, dark voice once again emanating from beyond the stairs. "Blasphemers, you dare disturb the Temple of Straevok! You shall all perish and become undead servants of the Soulkeeper!"

Then, the voice chants a prayer in an ancient language that Tim has never heard before. Tim hears the sound of wind and metal striking against stone. A man cries out in pain, and then, the new undead foe steps down the stairs to stand behind the Loyalist soldier who just crawled out of the Grease spell and got to his feet. A ring of blades swirls around the monstrous undead.

"Xix! Get back!" The thug shouts.

"W-what... is... this..."

"DEFILER!" The blades cuts into Xix and he cries out in pain.

Meanwhile, the skeletal orc lying on the floor crawls forward through the throng of gathered feet until it has crawled past both Kellam and the Soul Stolen into the sanctuary.

A moment later, another man appears on the stairs and attacks the undead priest with a massive axe. The man doesn't speak and looks wild-eyed. The weapon cuts a deep wound in the undead creature.
