Kulan: Need a unique Balor: CR 25!

Instead of fighter or blackguard, what about warmage? Looking at it, it'd be perfect. You gain spells like a sorcerer but cast any spell on their spell lists, and in light armor and light shields to boot!
Hmm, interesting... :]

SLA checks?

Mindbender is practically useless, though. Balors already have Telepathy, and can cast dominate monster at will, which is better than what a Mindbender can cast, isn't it? What ability do you see it using in combat that's better than what it already has?

Sorry if I'm missing something, -- N

Truth be told, it isn't much, since its abilites are better. But think about always having a solar guarding you without question, make an entire small town go after the PC's with the push the weak minded class feature, and if their good aligned characters, and if there is a paladin in the group, what can they do besides run or try to dispell the effect? Taking the latter course, they'll be overwhelmed and will need to retreat, but then the BBEG (the bolar) would start hacking away into them without remorse for the townfolk.

And about the SLA checks; the +2 total of spellcasting levels that should be added to a wizard or sorcerers caster level will go to the SLA caster level. After all, the prerequirements do state "Spells or Spell-like Abilities: Caster Level 5", so why not add them? Seems silly not to.

Again, how is this better than dominate monster at will?

For creatures with spell-like abilities, a designated caster level defines how difficult it is to dispel their spell-like effects and to define any level-dependent variables (such as range and duration) the abilities might have. The creature’s caster level never affects which spell-like abilities the creature has; sometimes the given caster level is lower than the level a spellcasting character would need to cast the spell of the same name. If no caster level is specified, the caster level is equal to the creature’s Hit Dice.

How did Memphis fare against the party?
He hasn't come up again, yet. Right now the PCs are embroiled in a war with two neighboring states. One of these enemies is a city-state full of devil worshippers, so they have their hands full right now. When the pivotal battle comes up then I might spring some demons from the Demonscar on them and the devils to up the fear level. :]

Sigh. :(

It's not going to happen. Two of my player's quit. The campaign has come to a screeching halt. I'll keep Memphis as a character for campaign world, and maybe have a chance to use him in the future.
