Kuo-toa and Slippery (Grappling)

Exactly what does the Slippery (Ex) ability of the kuo-toa give them? Does it mean they can't be grappled at all, do they get a bonus to their grapples, or what? The description says they're 'difficult to grapple' but that's not very clear in terms of game mechanics.

Hey, I hadn't noticed that before... As far as I can see, the ability seems only to justify their racial +8 on Escape Artist checks.

Edit: and make them immune to webs etc.

I had thought of that, but it seemed strange that it needed an extraordinary ability to justify a racial bonus to Escape Artist. If you consider 'difficult to grapple' as the same as 'easy for the kuo-toa to escape' then I suppose you're right. I was just wondering if there was something more to it apart from the justification and immunity to webs.

This reminds me - can anybody with the 'search' function point me in the direction of recent threads regarding use Weapon Finesse, i.e. Dex, for grapple checks. Or give a simple answer but I'm not sure there is one. BTW, apart from Improved Grapple, what else can improve your grapple check beyond BAB, Str and Size?

Grapple checks are *like*, but are not, melee attack rolls.

Accordingly, Weapon Finesse will apply on the initial touch attack to begin a grapple, but it will not aid you once you are grappling.

BTW, apart from Improved Grapple, what else can improve your grapple check beyond BAB, Str and Size?

That's pretty much it.

Oh - you could also polymorph yourself into a race / monster that has a racial grapple bonus!

There might be magical items that increase your grapple checks. I seem to recall some gloves that gave a +5 to grapple checks. This is beyond those items/spells affecting strength, BAB, or size.

If it applies to attack rolls only, then it applies to attack rolls only. So, in the above cases, no, they don't. They would apply to the initial touch attack to start a grapple, however.
