L4W Discussion Thread IV

Not sure if it's premature to begin discussing this, but I thought I'd get the ball rolling.

So, there's at least 2 approved adventures waiting in the wings + Velmont wants to run one and a couple ongoing ones are short on PC's.

PHB3 is due out in mid-March. Should we consider allowing those who's second PC has leveled up create a third PC?

So there's about 14 or so current players who'd qualify to make additional PC's now, or in the very near future. We seem to have a decent amount of DM's/games going and most only have 5 players, so there's room to add 1 in a lot of games + at least 2, possibly 3, games are ready, or near ready to go. That's assuming all 14 would want to make a 3rd PC.

Looking at the Character Status Page (not 100% accurate) here's the ones who'd qualify (as of today-ish):

Hmm... Tempting.

On the other hand, we recently had a large backlog of characters waiting for approval. I have to admit I don't actually know if we've gotten through that; I haven't had time to pitch in. Seems like we ought to demonstrate that we can handle the approval load we've got currently, before increasing it.

On the DM side, I confess I'm certainly looking forward to running one game here instead of two. I suspect some of our other multiple-game DMs might be in similar boats.

There's about 14 or so reviews in my queue, although I think most of them are fairly recent. Jax looks like the only one about a month old, all the rest are about 2 weeks or so. I think JNC/Ozy did a great job of punching out a bunch that were getting stagnant.

Just wanted to get the discourse open. I think there's still at least a month and a half + 1 month if we want to wait until PHB3 is approved to allow any PC's using it so mid-April?

There's also an adventure that is overstocked with PCs (doesn't the God Forge have like 8 or 9?). I suppose it would only make things more complicated if PCs started teleporting from one adventure to another, though.

God Forge have 7 PC. A bit overload, but not that much, considering I see a lot of 6 PC adventures.

If we have a third PC with PHB3 coming, I'll do a Battemind for sure... yeah, I start to enter pattern. That would be my 3rd defender on L4W

I like the idea of allowing a 3rd character for those who have leveled their 2nd characters. Of course, my second character has just leveled, and I'm a huge 'alt whore' as one might put it, so I'm kind of biased, lol.

However, as some have already pointed out, we still have not been able to get a rein on the backlog that we already have. Most of us judges have been pretty busy as of late (and even I have not been able to help out much, putting the burden on the others... sorry!).

R1, I know you have been doing it a lot lately, but could we get you to furnish us with yet another of your nifty excel sheets showing who has how many approvals and from whom? I may be able to buckle down a bit today (since I don't have school work to deal with today) and help out. Thanks! Oh, and if you could do this for both L4W AND LEB, that would be awesome!

Speaking of character approval, It looks like I'll a bit more spare time this semester and I now have access to the character builder, so I could do some character checking if that's useful.

Personally I think I'd hesitate to make a 3rd PC... I'm already spending a lot of time here and on LEB. I wouldn't want to burn out.

That said, after hesitating a few minutes I probably would make a 3rd PC. Especially if it was my duty to help fill up adventures.

Reason I also brought it up is that there's very few level 1's out there and we seem to have had a decent amount of disappearing players recently. Without any backfill coming in through organic means (new players), it's probably best that we keep having new PC's come in, otherwise you'll end up where there's a handful of players at high level and then if someone new comes in, there's nobody to adventure with, they get discouraged and then leave. It seems LEW has that issue now so I'm trying to plan ahead so it doesn't happen here. It doesn't even have to be when PHB3 comes out (just seemed a good time) it can be sometime later this year as well.

One risk is that if one of those players with 3 PC's leaves/disappears it affects 3 games + most on the list have or are DM's.
