Lamest Creature You've used to good effect in your campaign

Awakened Ooze. (Archbishop of Gaunadaur)

Vegypygmies (sp?). (playing the role of space alien)

Aurumvorax. (fun to try to raise from a cub)

No, but there is a 3.0 version on the WotC web site, here.
That's the one. I was inspired by an old Dragon Mag article (bestiary?) where they described the ecology of the aurumvorax from the perspective of someone raising an abandonded brood of pups, and the problems entailed.

Hint: they eat a lot of gold and will starve/die if not fed gold regularly.

Hello VoP druid, meet your end.

I've also had fun with the Gelatinous Cube: Tunnels of Pendemonium... a gelatinous cube with a skeleton floating upright within it... fighter, only seeing a floating corpse, says, "I charge!"... fails his save vs. paralyzation. It's moments like that that DMs live for.

I just read through the adventure "Box of Flumph" by Tim Hitchcock from Dungeon 118. It really got me thinking about some of the more absurd creatures out there that often fall through the cracks and never see the light of day in a typical campaign. I was wondering what maligned creatures have you all used to good effect in your own campaigns?
That would have to be the spellwarped penguin swarm I designed some months back. Nearly killed the party bard because they just couldn't take a swarm of angry penguins seriously. :p

That's a good one. Actually, several here have been really good. Looks like the using a lame creature as some sort of deception or somehow tricking the party with it is the way to go.

I once had the party up against an aranea swarm that was in a prolonged war with formians; also put them up against a Ravid in a "haunted hous"

Has anyone used Gricks at all?
