Care to give a little detail on that? Sounds interesting to me. Convert that to a flame-resistant saddle (probably some sort of fire-resistance or negation spell and the Craft Wondrous Item feat) and you have a perfect saddle for riding something like a Remhoraz (a scary thought, if I've ever though of one). Still, that's totally up to the DM, and you'd have to arrange a way to create Flame-resistant barding and saddle for a Remhoraz with the DM.

I don't know all the details off-hand, but I'm fairly sure it's like a war saddle (or whatever they're called) except you can strap yourself in for burrowing--which takes a fair amount of time to do, and, while you're strapped in, gives you penalties to your attacks and things.

Yeah, I can imagine that it would take a bit. But still, it's probably worth it to get that kind of jump on opponents. Underground transport is one of the least-used methods of transit out there; plenty of monsters can fly, swim, or climb - very few burrow. Tactical possibilities abound! And in an arctic environment, a friendly Remhoraz (with its potent Heat ability) would be a valuable ally, indeed. Still, there's the issue of a flame-proof saddle. Any ideas on how that could be accomplished? You'd need the same thing for a fire-based creature, so I'm sure others have thought of this before. And barding would probably have to be some sort of super-powerful magical armor. Expensive, yes, but excellent for a high-powered campaign.

By the way, it's called a military saddle. +2 to stay in the saddle, and a 75% chance to stay saddled if knocked unconcious. A must for combat riding.
