Lankhmar - any good?

If you are buying Mongoose’s Lankhmar for the “art,” I can guarantee that you will be disappointed. If you want to see a viable way to get the setting of Leiber to a game format, you will be very satisfied.

I don't buy game books for art either BUT art has a factor for me... it looks unprofessional if the cover art looks like Lankhmar's IMO

Now the interior art might be cool, but because I have a hard time spending the money on a book with this cover I may never know... my lose 100%

I will have to take a look at it if I see it in a local game store but so far I have not seen any (or Runequest for that matter, I got my off Amazon)

Are the tables broken in this thread for anyone else?

Yeah. I think the URL quoted in post #8 is the culprit. Emirikol or a mod could wrap it in [url=][/url] tags to fix it.

If you are writing a book based on the themes and elements of Leiber, you need to be honest in stating the simple fact that most of the stuff Leiber pulled on Fafhrd and the Mouser would simply be unacceptable to pull on players in a campaign. The writers are exceptionally honest in this area and suggesting other ways (mostly involving cruel railroading against NPCS) to get around the problem while keeping the style of the novels intact.

Now that has gotten me interested in this book.

even one with a mislabeled “Forgotten Realms” cover on it.
Hey, hey, wait a minute....I have practically EVERYTHING from that period....which suppliment are you talking about? You actually managed to find something that I'm not sure I own...and I own a LOT of the 2nd ed products, especially those with the FR brand..!

Bottom line: I would love to run a campaign based on the first book, although I would like to wait until the next two books before I give a definitive statement on my desire.

Thanks for the mini-review, tzor, I may have to check these Mongoose Lankhmar books out afterall :D

The Thieves' Guild supplement? I have it.

Another interesting thing is the outright honesty. If you are writing a book based on the themes and elements of Leiber, you need to be honest in stating the simple fact that most of the stuff Leiber pulled on Fafhrd and the Mouser would simply be unacceptable to pull on players in a campaign.

Naw, Buffy The Vampire Slayer RPG taught me you can do this, you just need to hand out free Fate/Drama points in compensation for the railroading. :)

The girl turns into 2 warriors story is classic Leiber. Haven't you ever heard of the Random Encounter?
