Braveheart was epic? A cool action movie with little basis in fact beyond names. I enjoyed the movie but I'd not call it epic.

I would. Just because a film has little historical fact in it doesn't take away from it's larger-than-life feel. It was a movie that had action in it, but that's not what made it a quality epic movie. Just part of it.

216 minutes, about 3 1/2 hours. I recall it didn't do that well.

I know we're not supposed to talk politics here, but G&G was heavily biased politically, and I think that fact might have a big part in it not doing very well also.

It could have been as I have never seen the film. It also could have just been a big pile of poo.

I'd love a 4 hour version in the theater. But I think PJ may lose a lot of money that way, because only the hardcore fans would want to sit through 4 hours of hairy hobbitness.

Exactly, so why bring it up?

I would say a bigger part were lukewarm reviews. None of the Chicago reviewers loved it.

I wasn't discussing politics, I was citing the subject as a possible reason for the movie doing poorly.

Just because we can't discuss a subject doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

rumor has it now that the film, at its current state, is 4 hours and 20 minutes long. the same scooper said that P. Jackson implied that because audiences didn't have a problem with 3 hour films like FOTR and TTT, that ROTK would stay close to its 4hr+ variation.

4:20? Where did you read this rumor, High Times?

I'm not buying ANY of these rumors. Seems like every single one so far has been shot down by Wingnut or Weta.
