Lava?

Are there rules for lava? Am I just missing it? It's in a lot of descriptions, but what's the damage, and does it restrict movement (per Magma critters)?

From the System Resource Document...

Lava Effects. It's also in the Dungeon Master's Guide.

If you have access to the DMG II, you'll want to check out the Lava part on pg. 53 in the Archtypical Locations section.

Of course, Fire & Brimstone is good also.

Those are 3.5 rules, just FYI. This is a 4e rules forum.

The first poster is correct.

One (some?) of the dragon encounters in the Draconomicon (or whatever its called - the new chromatic dragon sourcebook) have lava pits a character can fall into - as far as I can remember, basically all it does in those is a ton of damage when you fall into it (10D10, maybe, and the same again if you start your turn in it?).

Oh, ow. Fail on my part. I checked the prefix tag of the thread title for "4e", without realizing that I was currently in the 4e forum. :erm:

So, I hope you will let me retcon my answer: You can uses the 3e resources for lava that I provided for your 4th ed. D&D game! Just drag & drop!

Yeah...that's what I meant to say all along. :o

@ Dr Ruminahui - Yeah, I saw that encounter. The lava there does 20d6 fire damage and I think there's ongoing damage too once you extricate yourself from the mess. Not that I think you'll be alive long enough to save against the damage, of course.

Instant death is the main idea. The only save is to see if you can drop prone before going in. Reflavor the prone in any way you would like.

What ever you do, don't make rules that make it so that any character can ever swim around in it naked without dieing. You will offend too many people's sense of simulationism.

Though I am waiting for the epic destiny "Lava diver" that allows the preceding explicitly non-magicly. Possibly with the martial power source.
