One of my players, a newly-minted 9th level dwarvish knight, is planning on taking Leadership. We're playing the Red Hand of Doom, and the group is on the eve of the Siege of Brindol. For those not familiar with the module, a large goblin horde is about the assault a city. He thinks it would be appropriate to pick up the feat so he can have some foot soldiers under his command for the battle.
Unfortunately, he has 8 charisma. He's more interested in the followers than the cohort, actually. Does anyone know of any optional class features/variants that would support more followers at the expense of the cohort? He doesn't qualify for the Leader feats in Heroes of Battle due to low CHA.
Note that I have house ruled Leadership -- it only provides followers/cohorts of the NPC classes (warriors, aristocrats, adepts, etc).
Here's a few things I've considered:
- Adding the character's reputation score of 3 (using the UA variant) to his Leadership score, representing great renown.
- He would likely get a 6th or 7th level cohort. I could let him split up those levels however he wanted -- upping all his 1 HD followers to 2 HD, adding an extra 6 or 7 first level warriors, etc.
- Adding a custom feat that provides +2 or +4 to the character's leadership score. He could retrain his level 6 feat and then take the custom feat to boost his score.
- Captain Helmbreaker's mercenary troop of dwarves should be in Brindol. The character could "borrow" a squad of those troops. They would have fewer HP and poorer morale than his Leadership followers, though.
Any ideas or suggestions out there? I'd prefer WOTC material but house rules are ok too.
Thanks!
