Leadership question

Cohorts are complicated because they should be played with their own personalities, desires, and goals etc.

Mechanically, probably you should lose his services if your Charisma permanently drops to low.

But in game, that may not be the case. Perhaps you will begin to rub him wrong and he will be less likely to want to be around you as much or put up with some risks. But then again, PC's put up with each other under extreme situations for less... So go figure... Maybe the charisma loss will cause you to have a falling out and he will continue on his path in his own way. Up to the DM.

Did you lose Cha permenantly of temporarily?

A lot of adjudicating the Leadership feat requires some common sense and fudging to work well IMO.

If it is just a temporary thing and you treat your cohort well, I would expect him to stick with you, for a little while at least. He is still a full-blooded NPC with his own ambitions and personal relationships he cares about, not just an automaton controlled by the rules.

If your effective leadership score "permenantly" drops, this can happen for a number of reasons, then you may find your cohort or a few of your followers start to drift away... "I have some important family business to take care of at home, sir. Maybe I will catch up with you in a few months."

From the within the campaign logic, the cohort may have decided to ignore personal matters while you were still such the awe-inspiring hero in his eyes. With your leadership score drop, he decides some of his personal business should not wait.

All the business regarding Leadership scores, Cha bonuses, et al only matters when taking the cohort in the first place. Once you've got him/her, they're treated like just another NPC. You can lose your Cha bonus, get level drained, and it doesn't have any effect on your cohort. If you do too many bad things, you may lose the cohort, but that's something else.

Hong is correct. You only check leadership score for cohort when you first take it, or when you need to replace your cohort. Note that a cohort could conceivably pass you in level and still be your cohort.

However, for followers, they ebb and flow depending on your Leadership score. You just pick them up or they drop off as you travel.
