Leadership, UH, What is it good for?

Your cohort is your sidekick. It doesn't nessecarily *make sense* for millionaire ninja Bruce Wayne to attract a runaway circus acrobat from a broken family, but he does.

Think of how a wizard could have come to your side. Perhaps he's an "Ivy League Educated East Coast Liberal Book-learner" who has seen the error of his ways. Perhaps he's a Sorcerer, and uses his Bluff skill to give sermons (and make money from the congregation). Perhaps he's a wayward sheep that you've been put in charge of overseeing. I'd probably recommend Sorcs, just because they'd be a bit easier to play through during combat.

There's a lot of ways wizards or sorcerers could come to Cuthbert's fold. Figure out a reason and go from there. :)

Why not use the feat in a way, that your character requests some help from the church? At your level, that sounds reasonable. Surely, there are also arcane casters in the ranks of the St. Cuthbert followers. This way, you can close the gap and it still fits roleplaying-wise.

Other than that, do you already have Quicken Spell? It's extremely useful for a melee-focused cleric.

There's nothing that says a Wizard can't be a religious zealot. Give him max ranks in Knowledge (religion) and a slight inferiority complex over the fact that he's never been able to work out how to use divine magic (and thus strives to prove that he can use his arcane powers to serve St Cuthbert just as well as a cleric can) and you're all set.

Is it cheesy to put together a cohort specifically to plug a hole in the party make-up?
Yes. But that's still okay!

Any GMs that would get upset if a player took Leadership and, say, built a Cleric cohort even though there's no logical in-game reason for a Cleric to be following that PC around?
I would. But I have a hard time believing that there will be no reason whatsoever. This thread is loaded with great ideas, already (eg. love interest, past friend, sharing the same religion, etc).

I do not have Quicken. Hrm. That would be useful.

I rarely take Metamagic, because I tend to see the opportunity costs outstripping the gains. I have, however, been finding the Swift and Immediate Action spells in the Spell Compendium to be rather useful from time to time ...

BLAST. I need to see if there's anything in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level spells that I'd want to Quicken. At this point, my slots at 5th, 6th, and 7th are always full with mission-critical spells. 7th is probably the best slot to put something in, since my best spells at that level are Domain spells I can only get one of.

Can't meta up a Domain spell, can you? A Quickened Enlarge Person would be very useful for when I need to get big and hurt people in a hurry.

Look to Fearun. Wizards can be as pious (or favored) as any cleric. The wizard could just be aiding his god by helping the cleric they most believe represents his faith.

As for uses, nearly everyone in my DS campaign has taken Leadership, or plans to. Here's the breakdown:

The Dragon Sorcerer will be taking a half-dragon wizard who specializes in summoning and cutting deals with evil outsiders. He uses it to gain power (both overt and political) over others without spending his own spells known to do so. His followers will be spread out, acting as an information network.

The Trollkin Fellcaller is planning on making a circus. He's mainly doing it to get a charater from Bo9S into the campaign. Please don't ask for further details on this. I'm stumped as it is.

The Fey Mechanic uses it to gain a roleplaying requirement (he's using a druid mechanic to help develope biotech). His followers work in the shop. She also fills skill gaps he doesn' have (he makes weapons, she makes armor, etc).

The Fighter Sorcerer uses his cohort and followers as goblins sappers (yes, he was inspired by WOW). He's using the Gobber from IK, with the cohort taking levels in rogue and the followers taking levels in expert. They sneak in, set charges, and leave. The party goes in and cleans up during the chaos.

Yes, you can. You can also fill higher-level domain slots with lower-level domain spells.

Your cohort could be a friend from your character's youth or childhood; he or she grew up to be a sorcerer/wizard/whatever; he (or she) bumps into you, and hey! Let's go have some fun blasting undead & worms.
