Leaping into a grapple or normal attack

If a creature with a 30 ft. speed jumps off a 10 foot ledge and attempts to grapple, how would that be handled? What circumstance bonuses or penalties apply to each character? What if, instead of a grapple, the character attempted to attack normally with a proficient weapon?

Can a character make a running jump into an attack, possibly across a casm for instance? How would that function? (possilby similar to a charge?)

Curious because I'm considering developing a 'leap attack' style feat, and I want to fully understand how the mechanics work normally.

We came across a similar situation early on in our group and we decided to treat that as a Charge attempt (+2 Hit/-2 AC for 1 round). Its simple and has worked well for us.

Is that your solution for both parts of the question, or just the 2nd part? The first part of my question is about 'jumping down' from a ceiling or ledge in an attempt to grapple (and pin) an opponent. It seems to me like it would be much easier to take down an opponent with the aid of a little fall/tumble/jump from above.

I've got a brain-teaser for you, since you coincidentally posted this at the exact same time that my PC did something similar in seasong's Game of Death:

What happens when a Large Weretiger in an AntiMagic Field (with Improved Grab, Rake, and Pounce) Jumps 15' across water to Improved Trip and grapple with a Medium-sized human with Blur running who's hovering just above the water's surface?

Is there any difficulty in sighting the Blurred target before the AMF envelops them?
Where do the attacks occur? Do any occur underwater? What are the modifiers for combat underwater? Can you Trip someone who can levitate? Are you "prone" when underwater?

Don't you love how with all the rules we know, there's tons of things that aren't known? ;)

Heh. Interesting.

Though I have seen some quasi-official modifiers for fighting underwater in an online ad-on to return to the temple of elemental evil that can be downloaded for free. That's probably the only one of those problems I can solve.

Try out a thread I started on the same subject here. Seems that most would agree it would be a sorta charge, but somehow incorporating falling damage in one way or another.
