Learning something new... But what?

there have been ots of good suggestions so far and I would like to offer a couple more.

As far as a musicl instrument you might want to try the Harmonica ---inexpensive (or at least it can be), lots of self learning books and portable.

As far as physical activity I would like to recommend Ultimate Frisbe --- you will generally not find a more easy going group of people and hey are always willing to teach new players. While normally an outdoor game you can often find indoor games.

Also as Dannyalcatraz mentioned I would highly recommend volunteer work --- any homeless shelter or soup kitchen would be happy to get another heping hand and it is very rewarding.

Finally---have you given thought to writting --- in particulaar somthing game related --- maybe an adventure for whatever it is that you plan to play next.

Best of luck.

Ultimate Frisbee is high-energy and low-impact...and a load of fun!

I, however, am 44 and fat, so I play volleyball, which depends more on my ability to react quickly as opposed to running all the damn time! ;)

I tried and failed years ago to learn to play the harmonica, I may end up doing better now that I've had some experience with the flute though.

*doesn't like group sports* I'll consider it though.

I don't know of any shelters and such nearby... I guess there must be something though. I'll take a look.

Writing is one of those things I do. If not for my rather busy school schedule I'd likely be entertaining myself with NaNoWriMo this time of year.

Two things to learn with one stone...

Make a native American flute out of PVC and then learn to play it. There are dozens of web pages and videos on Youtube to show you how to make one. Assuming you have some basic tools the cost is $5 or so.

Or you can buy cheap recorders for somewhere between $5 and $25 and learn to play that. I actually learned to play the recorder in grade school but have entirely forgotten whatever I knew and recently got it into my head I'd like to re-learn.

Haha, I did too. I don't have my recorder any more, but I still remember enough notes to play the lion sleeps tonight. :p
