Least Favorite (Core) D&D Race

Drow shouldn't be on the poll until the FR book comes out, if we go by 4E and 3E everything is in every setting!!! attude.
Compare this poll to the Most Played poll. It just goes to show you how disjointed the opionions of a lot of people on these boards are compared to the majority of the people in the hobby. I think the dragonborn luv and hat will simmer down after the next few books come out. Then everyone will love or hate whatever race is new in the FR campaign setting.

It was a tough choice, but in the end I voted Half-elf. There's just no compelling reason that in a game where humans and elves have been fully playable race options from day 1, Half-elves should be an important core race. They either have no niche of their own, or (as in 4th) end up as a weird unique race that has nothing in common with either of it's parents.
There's plenty of other worthy contenders though.
Half-orcs. Now, don't get me wrong, I played a ridiculous number of Half-Orcs in 3rd edition, and enjoyed most of them, despite the mechanical weakness. Their orgin is...problematic though, to say the least, and there's really no need for them anymore. Back when playing a "monster" race was unthinkable, playing a Half-Orc probably seemed like the next best thing, but few people these days would blink at the idea of playing a full-blooded Orc, which eliminates the need for another boring Half-race and neatly sidesteps the messy orgin issue.
Halflings. They have more traction than gnomes, but they've always teetered on the edge of critical unpopularity, and have been revamped several times as a result, without ever really taking off. Winning a close-fought popularity contest with gnomes isn't exactly a resume winner. They do have their niche though (small, fast/sneaky guy) and are unlikely to ever be fully replaced by another race, so I imagine they'll continue hanging on they like always have, without ever being truly popular.

I personally always like gnomes, if only because they seemed to get virtually zero support compared to even unpopular races, but I have to conceed they have no real niche, distinct identity, and have always been the forgotten core race. I like some of the 4th edition gnome changes, but I don't know if gnomes can ever really be salvaged as a race, after 30 years of being known mostly as the butt of gamer jokes.

Guess that makes me one of the Few, the Proud, THE GNOMISH!
Seriously, Gnomes are my all-time favorite race. Gnomes Rock!! Why, you ask? Well..... they have high constitution like Dwarves, but they're much suited to working with magic. In fact, they make better Illusionists than any other race BY FAR! Plus, I like the fact that they're tricksters and stuff. When I play Gnomes, I never use that in a malicious way, but my Gnomes are playful, fun guys who like to provide lots of humor for their fellow adventurers. I've seen all kinds of negative things posted around here about Gnomes, so I thought that it was high time somebody spoke up for the little guys! Who better to do that than me?

According the the people actually *playing* 4e, the "stupid race that shouldn't be in the PHB" award would go to the halfling (with the half-elf as runner up).
Dragonborn, for all the hate on this thread, are the second most popular 4e race.

And the only reason most people play dragonborn in 4e is because they are statistically the best race for paladins/warlords.
That doesn't contradict the hate here. Heck, even I've been tempted by the dark power of their stats and made up a dragonborn warlord. But I still won't have them in any game I run
