D&D 5E (2014) Legendary issues

Think of it like the legendary creature gets a reaction against all those attacking it up to a maximum of three actions...

Although in this case the rules as physics thing doesn't bother me, I definitely narrate the LAs as if they were reactions.

"As your sword runs through the vampire's belly she just stands there and looks sadly into your eyes. Why are you doing this to me? ... make a will save."

Fact is, I like LAs because they allow me to ratchet up the narrative tension on every beat in a combat, in a way that static turns do not.
