Legendary Trait feat (some thing im working on for my game)

Still needs work but this is my draft vershon so some of it might not make any sence yet.

Legendary Trait [General]
You are one of the rare people who have the innate talent to do things others cant.
Benefit: You gain a Legendary Score equal to 10 + 2d6. The legendary score is a measure of the talent the character has to do things he could not have done other wise. The score gives the following bonuses, the scores ability modifer adds to the characters Diplomacy checks, and the character can take legendary feats.
Note:This score acts like the standard ability scores for its modifer. The character can spend the ability increases he gets every for levels to increase this score.
Special:You can only take this feat as a 1st-level character. Acquiring this feat requires the approval of the DM.

Needs work I know but other wise how does it look

I think that this is a cool idea, las! I would love to see how the development of this progresses. It looks great to me. Can you give some examples of things a character could do with other Legendary feats? Are they perhaps similar to powers granted through domains? Details, if possible! :D

So, does this effectively completely replace their rolled ability score? In that case, I'd state it more specifically. That'll give an average of a 17 to the score, and top out at 22. That's a damn nice feat, considering that Spellcasting Prodigy was considered overpowered, and it gave a reduced +2 to the primary stat.

The way I first read it, you get a 7th score (legendariness, I guess), which behaves like a normal ability score and adds its modifier to Diplomacy checks.

I think it is a cool idea, what are some of these other legendary feats? are you going to put them up sometime?

I dont know if I like the range increment though, especially if these other feats require a certain score or are useful based on the bonus it gives. I'd suggest that everyone has a score (start at 8 or 10 for most races, heros can start with 10 or 12) and this feat gives a bonus of 6 to it. This might give a high bonus to diplomacy, but that is ok. It will make it more even and consistant, which I feel is important ;)

Rather than adjust the roll, I would have it add a straight +6 to the given ability score, and have the prerequisite be 'Chosen Ability score at 17+' - before the feat, naturally.

Allow it only to be taken once. This is a campaign making feat, not a one for an individual player in a game.

It should add to Diplomacy and Intimidate checks.

Otherwise, it's fine, though I realized later on when I did this I shouldn't have wasted my player's feats and just given it to them.

Take the 2d6 out. It would suck to have rolled 2 1's next to guy who rolls 2 6's... a +1 bonus pales in comparison to a +6..........

I see where you are going with this, but, as you can tell from the confusion, it needs to be rephrased.

Legendary [General]
You are destined for greatness... If you survive!
Benefit: You gain an additional an additional ability score: Legend. You begin with a 17 in this score, and may increase it with level-based ability score increases just as if it were one of the six regular abilites. Further, you may choose two skills, which use your Legend ability modifier instead of the ability modifier normally associated with that skill. Finally, the DC of any attempt to identify you (such as with Bardic Lore) is decreased by your Legend modifier.
Special: You may only take this feat at first level.

By letting the player substitute the bonus, the increase over their regular ability bonus is somewhat reduced (basically you pick to skills that get a +3 ability modifer regardless of your stats). By letting them choose which skills it effects, you let the player create his own legend. By setting it to 17, you make dropping a level-based stat increase into it as tempting as possible.

After that I'd expect to see feats that let you
Use Legend instead of Con/Dex/Wis for one of your saving throws.
Melee or ranged attack rolls are based on Legend (not really any different from Weapon Finesse...) (considered fighter bonus feat choice).
Save DC of your spells is based on Legend (considered metamagic).
Add another 2 skills to those that are Legend-based for you.
Increase your Legened score by +1.
Etc.

Basically this will let you have a darn good stat in some ways, but not have all the benefits associated with that stat, making you sort of unpredictable. Say you want to play the great swordsman Mad Martigan ("You're famous!") but want to break some of the mold. You could pile your high scores into Intelligence and Wisdom (how odd for a fighter...) and take this feat. Then you take the "Legendary Finesse" feat. At 4th level you put your bonus into Legend. Now you attack like you've got an 18 Str, but you don't have the Strength to throw stuff around and you don't -look- like a big guy, which is part of why your skill is so legendarily noteworthy :). Plus you've got two skills that work pretty darn well for a 4th level character. You've also given out a +4 to attempts to identify you, which is a plot hook waiting to happen. All good!

You'd probably also need a 2nd level stat-buffing spell for Legend, and at least one or two sample magic items that increase the user's Legend score :). It's also begging for two 5-level prestige classes - one that includes +2 legend at 5th level, and one that grants the Legendary feat at 1st level :D.

Hope this helps,
