Agreed, LEGOs make great miniatures. I used them for any game at my house (I had kept my extensive collection). They work great - especially with a flat 2x3 base to help their stability. It fits perfectly in a standard battlemat.

I have pleasant memories of playing 3.5 Eberron with Lego figures- it was fun.

Don't forget that the Harry Potter sets had Trolls, giants, and a number of good wizard-y items.

If I had the money (and didn't already have 1,000+ miniatures), and my wife allowed it, I would totally run my games using Lego's.

Stability is a common problem with LEGOs, a member of my group took 3X2 pieces and caulked them to metal washers that were the right size for the grid. VERY stable! 90% of enemies we face are lego in nature. I used to use lego's for my characgters, but now i make my mini's out of polymer clay.

I like the skeletons in the pirate sets, as well as the inclusion of treasure chests.

@Larrin: Stability is only an issue if you are not using Lego terrain. Really, I would love the opportunity to draft an official LEGO RPG!

Someone I've gamed with has participated in several games using Legos as the primary minatures. He's got some photos of stuff they've created on his blog, if anyone is interested.

He went to a convention a few years back where one of the GMs had the entire adventure done out in Legos. The descriptions given made me extremely jealous I hadn't been able to make the convention. The GM built out an entire set for a wild west setting and everything was done to Lego scale.

Y'know, I'm not a big Minis guy, and I don't have a whole lot of free time...

....but if LEGO released a line of D&D minis, I would be on that like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

I don't rightfully know why, but LEGO seems to bypass my "this is a ludicrous amount of effort for just wailing on some goblins" switch. Perhaps its the modability, the customization, the idea that I could actually make a LEGO dude resemble my character more than I could get a plastic figure to do it...

In fact, after seeing that LEGO design website, I'm thinking of whipping up some cool beans myself.

...at the very least, WotC should look into customizable minis. Even if it's more Mr. Potato Head than LEGO.

What a cool idea. I wish they weren't so pricy... I've gotta keep my eyes peeled though for some cheap deals. Building dungeons would be fun, it would be neat to get a wider variety of monsters though. I'm all for Lego coming out with their own RPG... or WotC licensing or whatever!

What's the Lego Creator thing the OP mentioned? Can you custom order lego stuff now?

There's no RPG, but Lego does have a new MMO coming out in the near future. They've started releasing the NDA on the beta recently. While it's not as cool as having the Legos in front of you on the table, it is still a world built out of Legos to play in. It is however perhaps aimed at a younger audience than typical pen and paper gamers. Playing the game has given me lots of ideas for creating Lego monsters for players to battle.

However, a pen and paper game where you collected pieces so you could build various gear and vehicles would be a blast, especially if you actually collected the pieces. I'm really not sure how you'd do rules for all that, but I would definitely give that RPG a try if they ever published it.
