Leif's "Pomarj" Greyhawk Beta Game [AD&D 1E] [OOC 01]

OOC: 40% is right on the money for a 1st level halfling thief with a 17 dex.

WOOHOO! How much is it worth?! Is it enough for Raggs to pay for his training? Is there's any leftover he'd be will more than happy to lend his buddy Simon a few coin.

Ranger Assisstance

While it is true that the huntsman probably could do as well or better himself anything that Simon could offer to do for him, there's a good chance that he either:

a) has more to do than he has time to do it, and/or
b) there are simply certain tasks that he would prefer not to do because he finds them distasteful, and/or
c) he is a skilled huter, but that does not mean that he is a very good combatant, and he may have troubles with some miscreants who need to be taught a good lesson.

Possibly all of the above?

hmmmmmm

DeWar, I'll let you choose which task you wish to help Mikael the Huntsman with and how much of the party you wish to involve as well. This could get as complex as you guys wish to make it. Or it could simply remain as Simon's diversion to get the training that he needs.

[I already totally forgot that Mikael was your creation and not mine!]

OSRIC

I'm thinking about seriously converting this game to OSRIC rules officially. OSRIC is "Old School Reference and Index Compilation." That system endeavors to reproduce AD&D 1E rules with a few alterations/clarifications and so forth. There are minor differences in the numbers of XP needed to achieve certain levels, for example, fighters only require 1,900 xp to reach 2nd level instead of 2,001 xp.

The rules are a free download available here:

I might have that download as well...have to check. Never played it, but have heard nothing but good things.

Is there a particular reason you were thinking of changing? Something OSRIC does that 1e doesn't?

No, not really. No reason to change, I guess. OSRIC may provide some all-but-meaningless little boosts, but likely nothing that you'd really notice.

I will be bluntly honest here:

1) Simon does not have aywhere near the cash to pay for training

2) Simon has nothing the old hunter would want

3) Simon has no skill that the old hunter can't do himself and do way better

4) Simon can't get anything that the old hunter can't get himself

Therefore: I am at a loss of what Simon could do/give in lieu of gold.

Maybe you can trade knowledge, sometimes it's better then items.

What about the secret location of the magical strawberry bush that restore hp that only Simon knows of ? or the ring of mushrooms ? You can always tell him about the Orcs that live around here and the old tower we found ... :)
