Say, that reminds me -- I never liked vodka so much in my younger days, but I'm cultivating a rich, new appreciation for it in my dotage.

I am on strong pain meds still, so only can drink when I can go with out meds for a few hours beyond the 6 hours after taking the meds.

That really sucks! That in itself would drive me to drink heavily! Maybe your pain meds are soluble in alcohol?
