Pathfinder 1E Leif's Whirtlestaff's Wizards' Academy, Reprise [Pfdr] [IC 04]

Simeon guards the others as they work. He would like to help but turning your attention away to long in the wilds of the underdark will get you as dead as the poor aqua elves. He answers something Kerlan had mention before.

"Here is the underdark you get use to seeing odd things. So much so that they no longer become odd so much as just another day."

He waits till the others are ready once more to move on and then leads them once more.

Now that you look at it more closely, what you had taken to be just elaborate swirls and carving seems almost as if it might be a very elaborate Elvish "Y" Rune.
Kerlan moves on with the others, the armor in his Haversack. He contemplates the Elvish rune and it's meaning.
OOC: Any Knowledge check on that (and what kind) or should I just not worry about it?

Underdark-Quest :The Vault of Larin Karr

Kerlan and the others complete the cairn, but, ah, the others notice with some pity that Manny just isn't very much help at this sort of thing. It's not that he doesn't carry his weight, mind you, it's just that his weight is about a pound-and-a-half! :D

At any rate, the task is completed in due course, while Simeon stands vigilantly at his post throughout. Even Tylara helps. When all is finished, the wizards move back to the Primary Underdark Passage that they recently left to go spider hunting, and proceed on westward. A few miles on, you pass a Secondary Underdark Passage leading off to the south, but Simeon indicates that this is not the way, so you troop on to the west. About 8 miles further on, you come to a fork with one Primary Passage leading northward, and the Primary Passage that you are now following continuing on westward. You feel a slight tremor as if the very air is vibrating. Simeon is sure that north is the way to go here. Heading north, the vibrations continue. Soon enough, you realize that it is distant drums that you are hearing, but you feel the rhythm more than you hear it. You have now gone just about one mile down the northward passage.

You are all quite tired after an extended day of trekking through the Underdark. There are several inviting looking recesses in the passage wall that look as if they could provide adequate shelter for a night. At this distance, the drumming should not even affect your sleep at all, it is so faint. In fact, while you are thinking those thoughts, the drums stop, and all is deathly quiet.

[sblock=Simeon Longknife]
The drums are an indication that you are nearing the territory of the Crushed Skull Orc Tribe -- sworn enemies of your tribe, the White Fist Orcs. The Crushed Skull Tribe has a well-deserved reputation for cruelty, murder, and numberous other unspeakable acts. They are just all-around bad dudes. The drumming is almost surely to summon the warriors of the tribe to a war council or to mobilize them for war.

"War drums," Simeon says cocking his head.

"Crushed Skull tribe." He growls then spits. "We are near their territory and they are mobilizing for war. Not a good mix. But we need rest so we will have to be extra careful tonight and when we start again in the morning."

OOC: "Night" and "morning" of course being relative terms here in the pervasive inky blackness of the UnderDark.
"Cock-a-doodle-doo!" and what not....

OCC: It does get a little darker at night. Only us rangers can tell.

While the group goes over their spellbooks in the morning (how long does this take anyway?), Simeon pulls out his own book and pages through it.

OOC: Of course, of course, silly me!

OOC: Spell preparation for Wizards takes 1 hour, no matter how many spells are being prepared. [See, PH p. 57, first paragraph.] Maybe one of the wizards will teach Simeon a fart-lighting cantrip? Just make sure he doesn't 'suck' when he ought to 'blow'. (Ouch!)

OOC: that would be a real pain in the arse!
