Lets furnish our new home!

Adventurer
So my players just bought a new home in Sharn. They want to know how much it costs to furnish the place. Anyone have any good resources for costs of furniture? :)

My suggestion is to have them describe the furnishing they want, in as much detail as they can (and is fun for them), and with someone keeping notes.

Then take the list, hem and haw a bit, make some notations in your notebook, and then give them a price equal to 10% or so of the purchase price of the home.

:)

Ya gotta make them think you're working hard at this, you don't actually have to work hard at it... and 10% of purchase price is a good rough estimate of what it costs to furnish a home nowadays.

I hate you all. ;)

Seriously though, it may take a good amount to furnish it. It's a 15,000gp house in the Upper Levels of Sharn.

This is d20, no one furnishes a house in d20. And come to think of it no one does it in any other game I've ever seen as I've never seen prices for this sort of thing. ;)

Did Aurura's Realm Catolog have furniture in it? It is one of the best second edition books ever and had lots of cool stuff.

Do you have the Stronghold Builder's Guide? Have them design the details of the place and let them pick through the book.

Why do you have to do all the work?

In all actuality, a Sears or similar catalog can help. If any characters that have ranks in Craft (carpentry), Craft (Seamstressing) and Craft (Tanning) [Leatherworker], can work together to produce their own furniture and (luxury) clothery.

I'll look through that, thanks. :)

I'm not doing the work, I just want to give them a resource to do their own thing.

You might want to look at the various Kaiser's Bazaar books. I think C had a lot of pricing for various wood furniture etc. but I find them to be a good resourse overall.

Have it all custom made.

There were no furniture warehouses in the medieval world. :) Have them take on a craftsman, have hum make skill checks with an apprentice and measure it in time rather than costs. :)
