Let's get this forum rolling.

By the way, I'm not experienced in these matters, so I'll probably sound like an idiot, but if we do make a t-shirt, most of us live in different states, so how would we get the shirts too members?

Oh, and here's my shirt idea.

"I sent my PCs to (Hell/ the Abyss) and all I got was this stupid t-shirt!" ;)
Yeah, lets here it for my dumb idea I only thought up 'cause I'm currently in a sleep deprived state! :)

You know, there is nothing stopping us from doing more than one type of shirt. We should pick one as a standard. My vote would be for one that includes the same design we use on our banner just for pure marketing reasons. But after that. Their is nothing stopping us from issuing a line of GM oriented shirts, short of a lack of demand of course. We could call it "GM Gear" or something.

We just don't want the numbers to get too large, unless someone wants to spend a lot of time doing this. If we do, we'll have to up the prices a little to compensate for time, etc put into this.
We certainly should have an official t-shirt, though. Nightcloak is exactly right.

I'd really like to see the official t-shirt be the idea I put forward, but perhaps it may look more "sophisticated" to have the one with the small design on the front. Another idea to look ahead to, though, which may solve the problem:
How big do we want this foundation to get? Eventually, if this becomes large-scale, we're eventually going to have to have representatives, etc at conventions and stuff, doing sales, promoting the GMF, etc. I was thinking that perhaps we could save the small pocket design as a uniform for when that happens, since it would lend itself to that kind of thing.

Just a thought. BoD, I love the idea. Just make sure it's not copyrighted first, I swear I've heard that somewhere...

Oh yes. And Nightcloak: there is no escape. Have idea, will run with it.

Can't sleep. Might as well post.

In answer to BoD's question:
I was thinking about this transportation problem, and I think I have a solution. I would be willing to facilitate T-shirt stuff for a small fee (somewhere around min wage per hour for time spent, plus cost for materials, so maybe 2 bucks a shirt) no matter how large the orders may get. However, there are a few practical and legal problems:

a) How do we go about getting everyone's address? I know it's really not secure, but I think the best idea for now would be through email. You send your address to me (assuming I'm doing this t-shirt thing), I send you an address to send a check to, and once I get your check I will fill the order for the shirt. If this grows to a large-scale operation, we could set up a credit card system but I don't have any clue what that entails, though between CE and I we could probably program whatever needs to be done.

b) How do we handle security matters? Since there is a fairly large amount of personal info (career info, subject-related events, etc.) posted online it would be fairly easy, given a small amount of information, to track down someone in the GMF. I don't believe this will be a problem, but since the GMF is basically an all-inclusive organization we're eventually going to have some wierdos. This leads to the issue of return addresses and such.
A solution for this would be a P.O. Box. If we set one up specifically for the GMF, it will give away the town but (hopefully) nothing more. If anyone had ideas as to how we could handle this better, let me know.

c) What packaging do we put them in? Furthermore, how do we get that packaging? We need to box them, but where do we get the boxes? I think there's a place in town where people can buy boxes, but I'll have to go check.

d) Lastly, (and then I'll shut up) do we want other products besides t-shirts? If so, what and how would we produce them? In addition to that, who do we want working on this? As I said, I'm willing to do it (in fact, I'd love to) and believe I'm quite capable, but perhaps you'd want someone with more business experience.
In addition: do we want someone working on all GMF inventory as a part-time job, or do we split it up according to who can get the best prices?

Sorry if I'm thinking a bit far ahead. Some of my friends tell me it's a bad habit.
Anyway, I think that's all. If I think of anything else I'll be sure to talk your ears off again. ;)

I really don't think anybody or anyone of us should work for the GMF, but instead donate time to it. Actually having the GMF as a wage paying buissnes would or could get complicated. As for the shipping idea you dont get much faster, more secure, or more efficient way of sharing information than over the phone. E-mail is far less secure (not really secure at all.) but is also an easy way to comunicate. its 12:35 and I have school tommorow. Im going to bed.

EBay...

Sadly EBay wouldn't work because a non-member might get the T-shirt.

My problem is: Unless we hand-make the T-Shirts we have to pay someone to make them and then we need to at least break even on the T-shirts. If we buy more of the T-Shirts in bulk it becomes cheaper to make. I suggest we have a thread or something to sign up to buy a T-Shirt so we know how many people we are looking at to buy one.

LMK:
Are you suggesting that you DELIVER the shirts? i think that is the main issue here and I REALLY doubt you have the time and money to deliver shirts across the US.

As for size issues:
I'd rather not limit the GMF's size. I woudl like to grow as big as we can and I think we have alot of potential.

Not quite. I'm talking about getting their address, boxing them, and shipping them across the US.

@Xen:
Two problems with the phone:
a) Anyone can easily find the address of the person receiving the calls. Dial for the operator, give them the number, and BAM!, you've got their home or business address. That's the part I'm trying to avoid.

b) Phone lines aren't really all that secure. But that shouldn't be a problem, I doubt anyone would hack through the phone lines.

As for someone getting paid, if someone is willing to do it for free, go for it. However, whoever starts doing inventory is, hopefully, going to be doing inventory for a long time; that way prices stay steady and we don't have issues with changing rules/getting addresses again/etc, etc. Who has that kind of steady time and the means to do this job unless they get paid?

Just my thoughts.

These to statements conflict. Im not looking for an argument but what is wrong with having non-members buy GMF shirts. They don't all actually have to say "Im a member of the GMF!"

Umm, paranoid much? If your that scared that someone is going to get ahold of your information you got alot of work ahead of you. Anybody with time on their hands and smarts about em can get your info.

You have heard it before. I made it up and posted it as a joke at the DMF while we were still on the WotC boards. I just thought it up when, for some odd reason, I was talking with some of my friends and the topics of D&D and the "Sent my _ to _" t-shirts ended up in the same conversation. As you can probably tell, I was really bored when I first thought it up. :)
