Level 15 3.0 Sorcerer Spell List

Hey guys,

I could use some comments on my spell list. I'm level 14, so the spell list below is set. I'm looking for suggestions for the remainder of my spells. Some basic information... I'm level 14, taking Archmage starting next level. I'm a LG necromancy/illusion specialist. I have both Chain Spell and Empower Spell, which I can use without increasing a spells level (I take damage instead).

1st: Change Self, Feather Fall, Magic Missile, Ray of Enfeeblement, Silent Image
2nd: Cold Snap (RR), False Life, Invisibility, Mirror Image, See Invisibility
3rd: Fly, Haste, Major Image, Vampiric Touch
4th: Dim. Door, Enervation, Polymorph Other, Sudden Stalagmite (Wizard site)
5th: Doomwail (RR), Greater Shadow Conj, Troll's Blood
6th: Greater Dispelling, Greater Shadow Evocation
7th: Bigby's Grasping Hand (this can actually be changed)

Some other facts to consider: I inherited an item that tought me Teleport, Fists of Prismatic Pugilism (homebrew by DM), and Mangle's Infomosis (homebrew again. It's identify on speed).

Other facts: I have an amulet that I can use once per day that casts Iron Body and Tenser's Transformation on me. I didn't complain.

Last facts: I have a staff from which I can cast the following: Shield, Minor Globe, Repulsion, Contingency, Energy Immunity, and Mind Blank.

So..... taking all that into consideration, I have no idea. I was thinking

5th: Hold Monster
6th: Disintegrate
7th: Reverse Gravity and ?
8th: Leech Field/Horrid Wilting, Prismatic Wall, maybe Polymorph Any Object and replace Polymorph Other?
9th: Time Stop, Energy Drain, Dominate Monster?

So yeah.... I know it's long, sorry. Lots of secondary factors. Thoughts?

5th level Wall of Force or Feeblemind (tho Hold Monster is good, too), Firebrand (Magic of Faerûn) is also good.

6th level Contingency can be nice, actually, but Disintegrate is probably better.

7th level is easy... Limited Wish is THE single best sorcerer spell all around. At that level 300 xp are nothing compared to the flexibility you gain. Just don't use it too often, only if needed. You'll always have the spell you need available. That's not to be passed up. You should know that spell already by 14th level, to be honest, so go ahead and swap out the almighty hand. ;)

8th level Otto's Irresistible Dance or Maze, tho Polymorph Any Object is incredible, too.

9th level Shapechange, Summon Monster IX (good flexibility, especially in 3.0 that spell is incredible).

What feats do you have?

With Polymorph Other, if you use that on yourself, Still and Silent could be useful. As a sorcerer Heighten is great, especially at higher levels.

Thanks for the reply.

For feats, I have (in order to qualify for Archmage): Chain Spell, Empower Spell, Skill Focus (Spellcraft), Spell Focus (Necromancy, Illusion), Spellcasting Prodigy.

You're right, I definitely should have limited wish, if for no other reason than so I can cast permanency. But.... really, lose the Hand? My ultimate plan is to use it in conjunction with Prismatic Wall. Use the hand to bullrush opponents into the wall. :D

Since I can cast contingency from my staff (and I can recharge my staff), I don't need to take it. I figure I'll skip Finger of Death (even though I'm necromancer) and just have Disintegrate, since it's more versatile. I originally took polymorph other so I could use it on myself as well as opponents, but I doubt I'll ever use it on myself, much less my opponents.

Maze is fun... but wouldn't Reverse Gravity serve the same purpose, in addition to being a utility spell?

And, no summon spells.... in the campaign, the prime material is cut off from inner and outer planes. Only have access to PM, astral, ethereal, and shadow.

Thanks!

Well, you can always pick up the hand at 15th or later. :)

You are right with Reverse Gravity, that's close enough.

Acid Fog is another 6th level spell worth considering - acid damage with no saving throw, obscures vision and slows things down - you don't have any other battlefield control spells.

Another oft-overlooked benefit of limited wish is that you can cast numerous important clerical or druid spells too - raise dead, death ward etc. Could work nicely in conjunction with your contingency.

Cheers
