It's nowhere in the core rules. It appears in D&Dg and the D&D Rules FAQ.

The DnD FAQ is the official mouthpiece for rules clarifications. I could not find it in the PHB or DMG, either, but that does not make it less real (unless you play via the books with no errata or anything).

Auto-fail save on a natural 1?

If you've got a reference for this rule, I'd much appreciate it. I can't find it in any of the core rulebooks, and it's not in the Dnd FAQ dated 08 13 2002.

I was under the impression that a natural 1 only affects attacks, not saves.

The caveat is that a natural 1 on a save means one of your items is toasted.

Thanks!

I'm certain it is in that version. It's in the miscellaneous section. It's in my one form September, but no in green, so its not a new addition.

I need to agree with CGreathouse here. The FAQ is not the same thing as official errata, and should not be confused with the same.
