Level up my Duskblade

BASHMAN

Basic Action Games
I have a character that I am using for the World's Largest Dungeon campaign. It is a Level 1 Warforged Duskblade. Recently, we earned enough XP to level up to 2.

Now I am in a conundrum. Because I am a living construct, I only heal 1/2 from cure spells. This means that the divine casters consider it a "waste" to heal me, when they could heal another "meatbag" the full ammount. So I am not getting any healing from the clerics, unless absolutely nobody else needs it, AND the clerics are just about to bed down for the night.

Fortunately, I can be cured by Repair Light Damage and similar spells, which are arcane.

We have several arcane casters-- myself and a warmage, and two wizards. Duskblades and Warmages cannot cast Repair Light Damage spells, thus we cannot deal with it. The Wizards, however, REFUSE to "waste" one of their precious 4 spells learned per level on it. What is really obnoxious is that one of these wizards is a dwarf, who obsesses about using his maxed out craft skill to keep my working... but wont bother to learn a spell to do it.

So for now, my only means of healing is to do repairs at night when everyone else sleeps. Right now, when I get to level 2, I have a +10 craft (2 from mw tools, 3 int, 5 ranks). On their watches, each dwarf gives me an aid other for +2 more. I take 10 every night, so that I gain an average of 9hp per night.

So here is the problem-- Should I multiclass into Artificer, just so I can cast repair light damage on myself because the wizards and clerics refuse to heal me? The major downside here is I have a -1 CHA mod, meaning that my Use Magic Device will suck, making Artificer a poor class choice other than those few imbuements I can do for healing.

Or should I continue with Duskblade? I really want to get the quick cast and arcane channeling abilities asap. It seems unfair that I should be FORCED to delay these, take a 20% xp penalty by level dipping into a class just so I can receive healing.

So, what should it be? Artificer (just to compensate for party's callousness) or Duskblade (so I can make the character I want)

Duskblade. And the next time someone wants you to help them in a fight, point out that it's really a waste of your resources to do so. They should get the hint.

What FalcWP said. Go duskblade and explain to the other players OOC and IC that you're not going to be able to take the risks you normally would and protect them as you could, because of their decision.

You could see if the DM will let you take a repair damage spell with the Extra Spell feat.

Sure, he could. And rather than getting a cleric to heal them, fighters could just multiclass or put ranks into Use Magic Device.

The absolute most I would do, in epochrpg's case, is purchase a scroll of repair light damage for one of the wizards.

Another option would be picking up some eternal wands of repair X damage. *Any* arcane caster can use those.

The problem with just using items is that we are in the World's Largest Dungeon (tm) and that there just aren't any magic item stores around. In fact, me being from Ebberon kind of screws me over a bit, since Eberon campaign info was of course not included in the WLD, thus, there will be no upgrades or items specifically helpful to me (like scrolls on repair light damage). Only stuff from the core SRD will be in there... So I guess I picked the wrong time to try to play a warforged...

Btw-- what book is that "Extra Spell" feat in?

The Feat Index says Complete Arcane

Okay. I just looked that up, but it says that it adds one more spell to your spells known. I am presuming here, however, that it is intended to be used by sorcerers to add more sorcerer/wizard spells to their lists-- spells they are already allowed to cast.

Repair Light Damage is not a spell on the duskblade's list. What this feat WOULD allow me to do would be to add say, color spray, to my list of known spells, because color spray is on the duskblade spell list.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think it will work...

The problem seems to be on your companions rather than in your character. They have, or could have easily the resources to heal you yet they refuse. Remind the wizards that they don't have to spend 1/4 th of their know spells per level in Repair damage slots, just 1/8, since they can copy spells from the other wizard spellbook. I don't know how devoid is the WLD of supplies (there must be a place where to buy or find things) but if buying scrolls is out of the question, buying stuff to make scrolls probably won't. This means that they can create scrolls with the spells provided by the warmage and yourself and then copy them into the spellbooks, so if they minimally plan ahead a bit, they can have as many attack spells (specially evocations) as they want and 8 utility/non evocation spells, which should be enough for every wizard and certainly enough to spare one of them on Repair Damage spells.

If not, do as suggested and retreat from combat as soon you hit points drop below one half.

Another possiblity, if no better one is available, is to take 2 levels in Reforged (From Races of Eberron), one at 6th and one at 7th. At first level you gain the ability to heal damage over night as normal, and at second level you no longer are healed only half as much from magic.
