LG Drow Character?

Is it possible to create a LG Drow? I know it's a little...unorthodox, but it could be a Drow that has experienced a realignment and could create some interesting background.

Just a thought. My DM says no, so I'm looking for a second opinion.

Cool idea. You should have him use two scimitars as well.

Edit: So my post isn't just an inane comment, I'll say: yes, by the rules a drow elf can be any alignment you choose. The SRD says they are "Usually neutral evil," which means not always.

Unfortunately, that pretty much answers the 'Is it possible...?' question for his campaign :)

(And if it prevents yet another damned goody-good drow character, that's not a bad thing! :) )

Droid101:

I don't think Drizzt is LG. :p

And on topic...as Droid points out, they're only Usually Neutral Evil. Thing is, in the end it really does depend on the DM. Some DMs will accept mostly any character with a sufficient background to explain why they're a certain way.

But again, its the DM's say. If you already got a 'no', there's not much I can think you can do about it.

depends. maybe the drow was saddled with a curse/item that changed his alignment to lawful good. Now that might be interesting to play....

and then the curse gets lifted, and suddenly the party who has been interacting with this lawful good protector of justice finds themselves in a death trap set up by their friend :D .

But yes, what the GM says goes, but I'd have to agree, generally people pick drow for all those cool abilities, and just make him a good character. I probably wouldn't allow it either.

I think that the answer is, in your DM's setting, No. Telling your DM that the people on the Enworld boards said you could do it would probably just irritate him. It would me.

As a couple of people have noted, the drow with a good heart is not that unusual these days. Without knowing the setting or what you would like to achieve with the character its hard to be more helpful. Talk it over with the DM to see what option are available to you.

To reiterate what others have said, by the rules there is nothing to stop you from creating a Lawful Good drow character.

However, your DM has the final say in which PCs are allowed to play in his campaign. He may decide to disallow certain races (e.g. drow), or certain alignments (e.g. Lawful Good), and even certain races in combination with certain alignments (e.g. Lawful Good drow).

Personally speaking, I don't allow evil characters, and I only allow ECL 0 (no racial HD or Level Adjustment) races. You could play a Lawful Good elf in my campaign, but not a Lawful Evil elf or a Lawful Good drow.

In all honesty, if you wanted to play a drow anyway, unless it is a part of an underground setting, I think you would pay out the nose for having a LG drow. Not like he can hide up above ground and still retain everything that he has as a drow...

However, if you made an elf that might LOOK like a drow (maybe darker skin or white hair that makes you look that way when you wear black), that might be better suited and might make for interesting plot twists.

But, if you wanted to have a calm debate with your DM without crossing the line? You can give it a shot... Just rememeber where that line is that you are about to cross so that way you don't upset him too much... Just words of warning, nothing more.

We all know it has been done before..

But If you think it is worth a shot and not likely to annoy the DM, you might want to look at the prestige class "Infused". I'm sorry I don't have a link for it, but I'm pretty sure that when reading the class even evil characters can be infused to try and convert an eveil being onto the side of good.

Just my two cents
