Light-Hearted Science Fiction

I could never get into Andre Norton. I read something she co-wrote (I think it was the Elvenbane trilogy) and thought it was fantastic, so I went to pick up something by her since I already liked the other writer. I found her book unreadable. I don't remember what it was, but I recall the biggest offense was that she never wrote a complete sentence. They were all fragments. It drove me crazy. Maybe she was brilliant and maybe the stories were fantastic, but I couldn't get past the horrid (IMO) writing style.

Which book was it? I've probably read three dozen or more of her books, and I've never run across that style. For someone starting on her works, I'd suggest The Zero Stone and Uncharted Stars, or Judgment on Janus and Victory on Janus.

On the main question of the thread, I'd also recommend some of Poul Anderson's books, the Flandry books are very much in the vein of action oriented fun science fiction. The primary books featuring Flandry are Ensign Flandry, Agent of the Terran Empire, and Flandry of Terra, but there are several others featuring the character. Anderson's books featuring Nicolas van Rijn are also good.

Man, I have no idea. I couldn't even finish it. I'm sure I donated it as soon as humanly possible. But, given your post and the world's admiration of her, maybe I'll saunter down to my local library and give her another shot. I'll let you know how it goes. ;)
