light Shield and Grabbing

I think I have read long time ago that you can grab with a light shield. Is that true and if yes, why since Grabbing seems to be an attack which shouldn't be allowed with a light shield?

If it is allowed, can you use a light shield for the new MP2 Powers that require you to have a hand free?

Ok forget the second Part about the MP2 Powers, the sidebar for the Fighter specificly says that you cannot use Shields with these Powers.

Can you grab an opponent or merely hold an item?

The Light Shield entry mentions that you can still use your hand to hold an tems, climb, etc., but it also mentions that you cannot attack with the hand.

But I'm sure that I have read several times that you can grab (immobilize an enemy) and I want to know why or if that is wrong...

Grabbing someone is attacking them. You can't attack someone with that shield hand (per the entry). Ergo, you can't grab them.
