Light vs Dark or vice versa

What all of these keystone kops are trying to get across is that there are no rules for how magical light effects magical darkness anywhere in any of the books.

Just like there are no rules for tracking. Or other things.

This does not mean that that you can no longer track anything or that light is somehow unable to affect magical darkness.

What it means is that your gaming group is free to decide as a group how light interacts with darkness. Maybe you'll decide that light cancels dark and vice versa. Or maybe you'll decide it's actually a hungry light eating monster that's never satisfied.

Ultimately, it's up to you and what you think it should do.

You get blinded because it is utter darkness, not an blind spell, if it is utter darkness in my room and i turn on my flashlight i was holding but cannot see, the darkness disapears in the radius of my light, and i can see..

So where does it say that darkness ignores all light sources? Cause people with darkvision can see in darkness..

DMG 67 PHB 262

The cloud of darkness supersedes all light sources, whether its the sun, a torch, or an object glowing from the light spell (which for all intents is a glorified torch). No light functions inside the cloud of darkness, because the ability specifically states that it blocks all line of sight, and doesn;t care what light source generates the line of sight.. Also, if the source of the light is within the cloud of darkness, it wont shine out of the area, again because it blocks all line of sight, it's like a door has been shut blocking the line of sight.

Worry more about the cloud of darkness, and not the light spell. The light spell simply creates a light source like a torch. You guys are trying to get way to meta-gamey with this, it's really a lot easier to figure out that you are making it.

It doesn't say Darkness does.. it says the Young Dragon's ability does.

The zone blocks line of sight for all creatures except the dragon. Any creature entirely within the area (except the dragon) is blinded.

It depends on how literally you want to read the rules text.

By RAW, the only thing that will allow characters to see in the area of the zone is by getting rid of it. As far as I know, you do that with Dispel Magic or by killing the dragon. Creatures with darkvision cannot see through the darkness because the power text specifically states that no creature but the dragon can see through the darkness.

But, there's nothing stopping your group from allowing magical light to negate the magical darkness.
