Lightning Bolt!Lightning Bolt!Lightning Bolt!

of course he's going to poke someone's eye out with those sharpened things. I think the mage should switch to nerf lightning...

May I, pretty please?

If I learn to be a LARPer, can I play as Zues too??

Waaaahhhh! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!

Ah yes, this clip again. Ah yes, why I find it so difficult to say anything good about LARPs.

Well, okay, it looks like they're having fun, but the big guy really really needs to turn around and clobber that lightning dude. The real comedy here is that someone filmed it all.

Good lord.

I thought I recognized that cabin, then thought, nah--it couldn't be...

Then:

Looks like they're in the SOLAR LARP organization.

Good lord. I gamed with them. Oh yes, I've LARPed with those guys.

They, like many LARPs in the United States, use a system that mirrors D&D. That's right: they run around with weapons and armor, but the rule system mirrors D&D--a rule system that tries to model running around with weapons and armor.

The horror, the horror of seeing some twit run up, swinging his "Drizzt"-style two swords like drumming sticks, while yelling "fourdamagefourdamagefourdamagefourdamage" so fast he sounds like a raving idiot. Which, of course, he is.

Compare to the Curious Pastimes larp in england, which has real english accents, a much better game system, real beer in the beer tent, and much better looking... costumes and weapons.

Er, I said weapons.

Nice pics! I was wondering if someone would recognize the group and realize that LARPed with them! Wow, it looks like the action gets pretty intense in England ;)

I hope the LARPer's know that we are not meaning to put anyone down by having a chuckle over the video. Whether a gang of kids or organized groups...the important thing is that folks are having fun (and that no one gets an eye put out by one of those lightning bolts :) ). It looks to me like there is no shortage of fun there.
