Lightning Initiative

There are some epic feats that shouldn't be epic feats. Also, QF was out before ELH so it's not like any of the epic stuff was even defined at the time.

Correct, but I still think its prereq's are too low.

Where I see it more of a waste to devote that many feats to going first. It's tough for fighters to get because of the high reflex save, and tough for rogues because devoting three feats is a big investiment for them.

Edit: Only two feats, my bad. Improved initiative and lightning initiative.

From what I have seen of the Quintessential series, while they have some good ideas, they are very much 'power up' books written by people who have a better sense of cool than balance.

I totally agree. You should see the mithral skirt. When attached to a mithral shirt, it gives you better AC and dex maximum than a mithral chain mail!

The only Quintessential book we have is the rogue book, and the only things we used out of it were the thieves tools of speed (+4 to open lock and disable device, and it takes half the time to do them) and 2 PrCs, the Agent of the Crown and the Crusading Footpad.

Going first

Actually Rogues and Spellcasters love going first. So these feats become extremely valuable to them. Fighter in the other hand could care less... At least if he has Combat Reflexes. :) At epic levels going first becomes even more of an advantage, that is if you can hurt your opponent or at least run away from it.

Maybe the idea is that any male wearers will be ashamed of wearing a skirt, and so they jacked up the benefits. ;-)

Yeah, right. I've flipped through the Quintessential series and wasn't impressed.

Now, going first is nice for rogues, but even nicer is haste and/or improved invisibility. Then you can wait for the tank to get in and soak up the first attacks, and then tumble around and remove the opposition's kidneys. Sometimes, I hate going first.

Are the Quint series really that Bad? I plan on buying the Quint paladin for the Paladin PC who'll be in my game (I want to get him more options and something more then what many books Don't offer for paladins).

Is it worth it?

Just flip through it before purchase to see if it fits with your style of play. Everyone has differing opinions on that.

Also, the books are written by various authors, so if one in particular isn't to your taste (for whatever reason) then note who the author is and avoid books written by him or her.

Yes, I agree that some of the things in Quint. Fighter lean heavily towards the overpowered end of the spectrum.

All books have things in them people ignore for whatever reason. I've found that most of the books have many ideas and options that I can use. I'm still waiting for a book that I use all of, and that includes the Core Rules.
