Lightning Initiative

For me it's a question of how much of what's in a book demands close attention and/or alterations. If I page through something at my FLGS and see a number of things right off the bat that I know would need work, I'm only going to buy that book if the subject really interests me. There's so much d20 material available that I prefer to be picky about it.

The Quint books have never struck me as being particularly well thought out, so I'd be wary of anything drawn from them. YMMV, of course. :)

All books have things in them people ignore for whatever reason. I've found that most of the books have many ideas and options that I can use. I'm still waiting for a book that I use all of, and that includes the Core Rules.

I just noticed a very broken thing in Defenders of the Faith - it's called "Speed" armor and it's a +3 market bonus. It basically gives you the haste effect all the time, including the +4 AC bonus.

Now think about this. You could either have a +4 armor, or you could have a +1 speed armor. With +4 armor, you would have +4 AC to whatever armor it is. With +1 speed armor, you would have +5 AC plus an extra partial action every round. There is no reason why everyone would have it (other than the fact that it would have to be paid for all at once instead of incrementing normal armor by +1, +2, etc.)

Thing is, a +1 speed armor only costs 10,000 gold market price, or 5,000 gold to make. Characters could have this armor by around 6th level on average. Very broken, if you ask me.

I'm not sure. The FLGS in the area that would have the book is a small little store in a very big mall; not enough room to stand around and look into. :

It's been errated to +1, and works like the boots of speed, IIRC
