Lightweight RPG Systems

The 1PG Games from Deep 7 sound like what you want. The actual rules are 1 pg, then a couple of pages of genre specific rules. Character creation takes about 30 seconds.

Each genre is a separate game, but they are only three or four bucks each, and there are quite a few genres offered, including several modern and futuristic ones. EAch also comes with several scenarios/adventures to get you started.

Not really a whole lot of consideration for character advancement or long-term play, but you said that wasn't important.

I've never tried using it, but there is GURPS Ultra Lite which is 1 page

I would second this. Savage Worlds is a great system.

While SW seems to me a really good system I wouldn't call it lightweight at all. It is not 3E Core level but not to far off it

My go-to recommendation for this sort of thing is James V. West's The Pool (rtf).
