Liv.Greyhawk: Sharks and Sahuagin in NYR DYV!!??!?!??

My suggestion would be to make a subrace of Sahaugin that thrive in freshwater instead of saltwater. Just pull the 'ol switcharoo on the sensitivity, give the sahaugin a slighty different coloration, and go from there.

What is "RAW"?

Rules as Written.

If you don't want to go with a magical solution, it might be a little creepy to have sahuagin in weird leathery suits that keep a layer of salt water near the body and collars that force the abundant fresh water through a salt filter. I suppose a similar apparatus could be affixed to the gills of the shark.

If your objection to magic is largely on the scale of a gate, the sahuagin may have developed a salty water spell just for these sorts of incursions. It would stand to reason that it would be lower level than airy water.

Both ideas still miss the mark in terms of explaining why they're there though.

Very typical of D&D. Just say that these sharks are an Oerth variety, rather than a match of Earth sharks. In fact, many animals would be different on Oerth (changes in habitat, appearance, etc..) due to the differences in environment (different landmasses, environmental regions, etc...). Or, just say that they are bull sharks.

As for the Sahuagins.. Drop the fresh water thing? Or make 'em a subrace of Sahuagin. D&D is FULL of them.
