Living Campaigns represented

Although most of the D&D Living campaigns utilize yahoo! groups for their messaging, I was wondering how many people on these boards participate in living campaigns. Do most of you play only home campaigns? Or do you take the time to head out to conventions and play some modules with friends/strangers?

And, for those of you who play those campaigns, is there an idea or a request or a desire that you've always wanted to express to campaign management in regards to what you want to gain/accomplish in a living campaign?

I'm the story/plot director for the Living Kingdoms of Kalamar which is a new living campaign. It would be nice to build off the experiences of the past and start with something new, fresh and innovative. We are, of course, still restrained by the fact that we play in four hour slots at conventions and the modules have to be acceptable for a younger audience as well (no naked succubi).

My gaming group is very active in living campaigns. Most of the group travels to Cons on a regular basis to play Living Greyhawk. We run a fair amount of LG as sanctioned home play. I also run a subset of our gaming group through Living Dragonstar. We used to have interest in Living City, but that has pretty much evaporated since Organized Play took over there.

We also run a (somewhat) monthly Game Day focused on Living Greyhawk here on Long Island at our FLGS.

We haven't really looked at Living Kalamar, mostly due to a lack of time. Between LG, the occasional LDS and the 2-3 home campaigns that get run, we have a pretty full plate. Especially considering that we only game once a week (though there is the occasional "special" event here and there).

Having not looked at KoK much at all (though I have liked what I've seen when flipping through some materials at my FLGS), what is unique and interesting about LK, or perhaps better put, why should I try to get my gaming group interested in another Living Campaign?

I play LG, Dragonstar, Living Force and I'm starting LKoK. I play LG at home or play/judge at conventions. I like juding so I help out in my region (Geoff) the other campaigns I play at cons and a little at home since there isnt a great demand for them in my area (DC/MD/VA). I'm trying to start up interst in LKoK by volunteerting to run the modules I've played in my area.

So people play LG so its hard to divert there attention to other campaigns. As far as Internet mediums for communication I think that the KenzerCo and WOTC message boards and Yahoo! Groups are fine. I like the setup of our Yahoo Group with Both IC (in character) and OOC (Out of Character) messages. I think on the LKoK a few IC message might be fun. Maybe at a made up tavern in Bet Rogala.

I sure would like to participate in a Living Kalamar or Living Greyhawk campaign. It sure sounds like fun.

Where can I go to find out when and where all the cons are being held? I found GenCon (going to be in Indy next year), but I'm not really sure where to look for the other ones. Also, is anyone welcome to attend these or does one need to be a member of a specific group?

I originize / or judge / or play in Living Greyhawk and Living Force games. I love them. Lots of fun.

I miss item certs in LG. Does Living Kingdoms of Kalamar use item certs?

Also, I like the regional aspect of LG. Does LKoK use regions?

Anyways, as far as adventures themselves go, I like a nice balance of mystery/plot and combat. Two combats seems pretty good.

In Living Force, I always enjoy it when fighting something like a droid that my Jedi can just unleash on with his lightsaber, like he can't with some humanoid. I guess the same would apply to D&D if you played a Paladin or good Cleric, it's nice to not have to worry about subduing or trying not to kill all the time.

How to get started

Well, most if not all living campaigns use yahoo! groups to discuss and organize their specific campaigns. So if you're wanting to get started in any living campaign that would be the best place to start. Just ask. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will tell you if they're in the same area.

You can find them here:

Living Kingdoms of Kalamar

Living Greyhawk

Living Kingdoms of Kalamar does use item certs for most items (we're trying to stay as close as possible to the core rules so certing crafted items is something we're still working on). We don't have regions though. The campaign/volunteer staff isn't large enough to support that kind of operation at this time. If the campaign is successful enough, it would be nice to move to that type of format as I enjoy the regionalism of LG as well.

I don't play Living Force any more. I bought the campaign book for $40 just a few months before the rules change happened (which is mandatory). When I saw the new book with all thep pictures from Episode 2, I knew that they would do it again with Episode 3 and I don't feel like investing $120 on the same campaign source. I've heard some of the improvements they've made are far superior, so I might get back into it when they change the rules again. Still, I have plenty of other living campaigns to fill my time (Living KoKalamar, Living Greyhawk and Living Jungle are the three I play most frequently).

I'm pretty sure that TX is part of the Bandit Kingdoms in LG. If you do a search at yahoo groups for "Bandit Kingdoms" you should be able to find the discussion group for your region. From there you should be able to get all the local events that are going on.

Regions

Texas and Oklahoma are the Bandit Kingdoms, Louisiana I believe is part of Yeomanry and New Mexico is part of the County of Urnst.
