Hey Erik! You should come back to Nutkinland. We're nicer there! :D

I like Dragon and Dungeon and whatnot. Y'all have had some tough times recently, especially with losing ad revenue when Paizo first came into existance, so I'm just glad you're still around. I'm willing to be patient for my Greyhawk stuff. I know that, when Forgotten Realms finally dies under the weight of its accumulated munchkinism, Greyhawk will still be there, chugging along just fine. :p

Hey CZ,

How it going?

I can't help but have a pair of questions based on your post.

A) I understand that Paizo and WotC are completely separate financial entities. But they still work together. How is "nicer" to just insult a different part of the same thing?

B) I understand from your posts on Nutkinland that you consider your EOM mage to be a battleaxe compared to the WotC dagger (sorcerer). Now I can certainly respect that you enjoy playing that way. But how can you then turn around and call ANYTHING else munchkin? Drop a few first edition EOM magi in the Realms and they bring that place to its knees in 6 weeks.

Bryon,

I think I'll let my overall behavior on these boards speaks for itself. I think most posters know that I'll shoot straight and honest, and seldom lose my temper. On the other hand, even I can be pushed too far, and of late all of the nastiness pointed our direction has been a little tough to handle. We're dealing with it by trying to make changes to the magazine to please the largest number of readers, but I'm not perfect and sometimes, when pushed, I push back.

I know Jay personally and thought he would have afforded me more respect than to post a purposely alarmist thread title simply to bait me. I guess I was wrong about that, as his above post clearly suggests.

I'm off to Origins. Hopefully to get insulted to my face as opposed to at great distance. See you all there.

--Erik

But you see this is the issue with your organization. It is all nice that you shoot straight from the hip. But you are representing a company. If its customers think you behavior is poor it reflects badly on you company in the eyes of its customers. I really want your company to succeed, once I heard that they were splitting from WotC. But ias a customer I am disappointed by the general attitude of it manament.

Monthly: YES! ... Alternating monthly content: YES! ... Minigames: YES! ... Suscriber bonus adventures: YES! ... Adventure Path: YES! ... Incursion: YES!

Yeah aren't those great? Alternating monthly content: which is to say Dungeon didn't alternate its content before?

Minigames?! You mean Polyhedron didn't offer minigames before Paizo took over?

Subscriber Bonus adventure? You mean that Bonus adventure that still doesn't bring it to where two current monthly issues equal one previous bi-monthly issue?

Adventure Path? You mean where issues have adventures that connect? Am I the only one that got the "Mere of Deadmen" issues that Perkins edited?

Incursion. Well, there's one.

Looks to me like Jay was simply upset that Paizo did not live up to its promise to it's LGJ subscribers, he called them on it, and Eric Mona didn't like it. I guess they figured that as subscribers, who pay good money for our magazines, we just wouldn't care and they could do pretty much whatever they wanted to and go unchecked. I guess Paizo forgot that it's the subscribers and the people who purchase the magazine that write their check.

Fight it with your wallet, then, Blister. Nobody's forcing you to buy a product you don't enjoy. I do enjoy it and I give them my money because I do. If you want to have the magazine your way, publish it yourself. If people agree with you, they will buy it and you will all be happy. What I don't understand is buying the magazine, then complaining that you don't like it, only to buy it again.

As far as subscriptions go, well that's the risk you take with subscriptions, but it doesn't give you the right to dictate what the content is any more than it would be right for me to say that Paizo should only focus on minigames (which I really enjoy and would pay extra for). If they did away with minigames, I would be disappointed, but I would probably still pony up the money for the Dungeon content, becuase it is ALL good. ESPECIALLY the for the amount of money they are asking for it.

There is a really simple solution to this problem. One that is mentioned every time one of these threads come up and one that is universally ignored by all of the whiners. IF YOU FEEL THAT THE MAGAZINE IS RIPPING YOU OFF, DO NOT BUY IT. PERIOD.

Of course, I'm sure this will be ignored once again. Which is exactly why I don't usually participate in these threads.

The word "nicer" in my sentance refers to Nutkinland being nicer than ENWorld, as in we treat people nicer than Erik is being treated here. I have no idea what the rest of your comment is talking about, actually. I only know Erik as a passing acquiantance, but I quite like the guy. Thus, I felt like giving him a bit of encouragement in a thread where he's getting dogpiled.

Let me introduce you to a concept you may not be familiar with. It is called a "joke". In this case, I am referring to the historical, though somewhat overblown, anomosity between Greyhawk players and Forgotten Realms players. I would explain it more but, unfortunately, analyzing a joke makes it cease to be funny. So you'll just have to trust me when I tell you that that is a "joke".

Ah, Ok. My brief trip to NKL didn't really seem that way. Seems I was being slandered behind my back before I even got there. Not that I was offended. Say whatever you want. Just don't try to turn around and tell me that it is a "nice" place.

And I've been nicer to Erik than he has to me.

Yeah, the pointless anti-Paizo drivel above happens on a regular basis. And I can be sympathetic that being a target of such childishness would get old. But, part of getting people to give you their money is acting professional, even when faced with such tripe. Further, my sympathy goes completely out the door when they hide behind pointless rants like that as an excuse to angrily slam anyone who tries to offer contructive critcism.

But feel free to analyze away, this "joke" is in no danger of ceasing to be funny.

So, don't quit your day job. Unless it is game design. (Because of your strong understanding of the concept, I'm certain you will take no offense, knowing fully that THAT was a joke)

Anyway, if you honestly were not slamming people who like FR, then great. Glad to know there is one less geek out their making fun of other geeks.

:)

Origins was nice. Lots of friendly people there. Gave me the impression that we were doing something right. I'm not going to comment much on this thread, other than to respond to the following:

>>>
Just a quick question about the LGJ, a long, long time ago you mentioned that you might publish a map of Rel Astra, are there any plans to do so and if there are when do you think that map would be out? Just curious.
>>>

I'd still love to do it, but it's sort of a "dream project" of Gary Holian's, and I'm going to let him have as much time as he needs to put together a good Rel Astra article for me. If that takes another year, so be it.

--Erik

Thanks for the reply Erik. I look forward to anything that you'll put out. I do hope to see that Rel Astra article some time in the future.
