Living with a bird

I've been told that birds, lacking the intelligence God gave the shovel, simply believe it to be night if it's dark, and thus sleep. So just put something heavy over the cage, like a thick towel, or a blanket, or something airtight...heheh. Kidding on that last one.

My best advice is a thick blanket. Or, if nothing else works, I have another idea. It involves olive oil, some lemon-pepper seasoning, and a very cunning explanation for her...

Environmental enrichment - which is really just a fancy way of saying give the bird something to do other than scream.

Get some interesting toys, things that the bird has to work on - like things stuffed with treats or food, or things to chew on. Old carboard boxes can be awesome toys for a bird who likes to chew, just find one small enough to go in the cage and they will spend hours totally shredding it.

If you want to try to get the bird to like you better so he doesn't miss your wife so much, you should take over all of the bird chores - feediing and such. Might work, might not. At the end of the day, birds are malevolently clever and do what they please.
